Planning ahead in case of emergency whilst on holiday in Cornwall

I'm going to Cornwall for a week soon when I'll be 31/32 weeks and as I'm a bit of a worrier am creating a plan for what I'd do if something wasn't right whilst I was away. I'm particularly concerned about potentially having reduced movements.

Should I just go to the nearest A&E (in Truro I think) and they will send me to the right place?

would really appreciate any advice

Don't go to the A & E... they won't want to see you and you'll just waste time.

Go straight to the delivery suite, you can always ring them beforehand. www.royalcornwall.nhs.uk/ward/delivery-suite/

I went to Devon a few weeks ago at 32 weeks and ended up in hospital with contractions for 2 days. I called my own community midwife first for advice, they said call the local maternity unit, the local unit said to come in to delivery suite. They were great and looked after me really well, was just rubbish to lose two days of holiday but that's the risk of going away in late(ish) pregnancy. As long as you make sure you have your maternity notes with you, if you need to be seen just call the local maternity unit and they'll tell you where to go, much better than a&e! Hopefully you won't need it though, enjoy your holiday!

It's good to be prepared I went to Devon a few weeks ago at 33 weeks, I googled the nearest hospital, we too my hospital bag, the babies stuff and the car seat. It's good to be prepared and I am consultant led and he said to be aware.
It was a pain that take so much stuff and thankfully we had a fab holiday and no arrival of baby or problems for me but I'm glad we were prepared.

Have a good trip xx

Thanks so much for all the advice ladies, that's ever so helpful. @issy2165, if you have the numbers for Truro hospital that would be amazing. Hopefully I won't need any of this but definitely feels much better to be prepared.

Hope you're doing okay now @elpenguino.

xx

I've just returned from holiday (not Cornwall) and had to visit the maternity day asssessment unit. I'm 26weeks so not as far a long as you.

I didn't take my notes with me dumbass, so make sure you take yours. Also, try to remember your blood group as they wanted to make sure I want resus positive.

As others have said, take hospital bag and plenty of snacks/drinks/books as we were at the hospital for 4 hours.

Don't forget to take the baby's car seat. Everything else cam be bought quite cheaply last minute if need be.
