Could I have an anterior placenta?

Hi all, I'm 18 weeks with dc2 haven't felt any movement yet, may the odd wee swoosh but nothing I can be certain of. When I was at the midwife this week she checked heartbeat with dappled and said all was good though mentioned it was lower down than she would usually expect (although I do have a pretty fat belly) I was just wondering if this, combined with not feeling anything yet, could indicate an anterior placenta? I have my big scan in a few weeks so I suppose I will find out then anyway.

Hi Emma,
I'm on baby number 3. I got to around 18 weeks and started to worry daily that I hadn't felt movements like others in the same position as myself and like yourself only had the odd swoosh feeling. I also worried more as I was having scan on my cervix and could see baby moving on the screen but was feeling nothing.
At my 20 week scan they said my placenta was anterior and to try not worry about movements until after 24 weeks.
I'm currently 22 + 4 and little wriggle doesn't stop moving full kicks and all.
Try keep calm and my little one usually
Moves more during bedtime. At the start I had to lie very still few a while before feeling faint movements.
Keep positive and relax.
Xx

Hi Nat, thank you for the reassurance. So glad to hear all is well with your little one and they are giving plenty of kicks and wriggles. I'm sure all will be fine, think I am just a born worrier!! Lol. Looking forward to feeling a bit more pregnant!!

I'm 17 weeks with second DC and I'm worrying too. Haven't had midwife check heartbeat yet so last time I knew all was ok was at 11w+6d when I had my scan. Roll on 3 weeks time when I'll have second scan! Hopefully by then I'll be feeling baby anyway..

I know the feeling Emma. I worried and worried something was wrong but everyone is different and everyone feels things differently. So try not to worry so much.
Hi GlitteryFluff - did you not have a midwife appointment at 16 weeks? That's when I heard the heartbeat.
Xx

I had anterior placenta with DS and didn't feel any small movement, just definite kicks at 19 weeks. I was a bit concerned and assumed this pregnancy I must have anterior placenta again, as again nothing till 19 weeks and you always hear that you feel movement earlier with subsequent pregnancies. But surprisingly this time round I don't have anterior placenta, so guess every mum and pregnancy different. Hopefully you'll feel definite movements very soon :)

Nat No I didn't see a midwife as I had a consultant appointment instead (DS's birth was all kinds of wrong and ended in a section). I had my urine & blood pressure checked then just went through what I want to do for this birth. That was it.

I had anterior with DS2 and honestly I rarely felt a thing. I had so much monitoring because of it, it made it difficult to see his movements on scans too.

When he was born his placenta weighed nearly 4 pounds and he was only 7! The cord also snapped and the placenta got bloody stuck

the report from my first scan (what was it 12 wk?) had anterior placenta written down

Thanks for all the reassurance everyone, I must check my notes and see if it says anything. I suppose the main worry is placenta attaching to c section scar (thanks for making me realise that was a thing Dr Google!!!) I'm sure all will be fine though!
