Hi girls,

I found out I was pregnant last week ( I?m 4+5 now). We going away on holiday this weekend and I had a full body massage booked there. I read somewhere that it isn?t safe to have one in early pregnancy, no even a foot massage as it can encourage contractions. Is it true? Can I have a facial instead? Neck and shoulder?

Thanks!

It is safe but you need to tell the person massaging you so they only use oils that are ok for pg

Relax and enjoy I'd say. It is safe. (Spent 4 1/2 years practising massage.) Would def. tell them since certain oils are contraindicated (if you're going for an aromatherapy massage that is). Would also avoid a thorough foot massage or hand massage since there are specific spots that you shouldn't work too deeply - but a decent therapist ought to know those.

i tried to book massage in 2 different places and i got 2 big 'no', that was before i was 12 weeks pregnant.

i dont know about the other ladies here, but im guessing they are not going to give you a message either sunlover if you tell them you are not over 12 weeks yet. their main concern is that massage releases toxins and because the first trimester is so delicate, they dont want to cause a miscarriage. after i learned their reasons, i chose not to get one myself.

after 12 weeks is fine, most, if not all, places will accept pregnant ladies.

Thank you all very much for replying.

I'll definitely let them know i'm pregnant and I think I might go for a facial + head and shoulder massage instead of a full body massage just in case.
