"Morning" sickness and time off work

Hi everyone just looking for some advice!
I've just got back from GP as been having terrible "morning"/ 24 hour sickness where I can't keep food or fluids down! Got told by GP to take at least a few days off work for bed rest but could potentially need to go to hospital for fluid drip.
My current work situation:
On a fixed term contract that ends at the end of this month. Not happy in the job so looking forward to it ending.
Just messaged boss to say about having a few days off. They have replied saying they're happy to wave my notice period and terminate my contract now.
A part of me wants to take the chance and run for the hills but I need the money and even if I'm off sick I'll surely get a small amount of money from Sick Pay?

What does your contact say about sick pay?

Do they know you're pregnant?

Depending on those answers I'd go by how much you want/need the money I guess, plus whether it would cause problems with you in your industry re future contracts (assuming you would like to work before you take a break for maternity)

(I'm not saying you shouldn't take the sick - you must, if Gp advises - but whether you should be a bit awkward for them or not)

Contract says I'm entitled to statutory sick pay.
They know I'm pregnant.
To be honest I don't think I'll be getting a glowing refernece anyway as never fitted well into the job but just thinking that if I am signed off as sick she surely doesnt have grounds for dismissal due to it being discriminatory?

Inclined to agree with you! I'd repost on the Legal board if I were you - the fact that your contact says you're entitled to SSP and they know you're pregnant makes me think they're on dodgy ground trying to get rid of you, despite not being a permanent employee.

Hope someone with more advice comes along but personally I'd stand my ground if you don't reckon you're holding out for future work or a glowing reference!

Thanks Scribblegirl will post on the legal board now!

I would reply to your boss and you say you are off sick and not waiving your notice period as you are currently unable to look for another job due to being unwell. If they reply saying anything other than agreeing with you, tell them it is sexual discrimination and you will take the matter further.

Hope you feel much better soon and get a much better job before long.

I would try and stick it out as long as possible. I had to take 3 weeks off work because morning sickness was so so bad. Lucky for me though they was very understanding. Do you not need the money? X

To be honest I could cope without the money especially as it would be statutory sick pay and not my full wage.
But for me its now coming down to principal and a part of me wants to be like no I'm signed off for 3 weeks so give me what I'm entitled to just to teach them a lesson that they can't push people out and treat them this way because pregnancy incoveniences them. Hopefully stop them doing it to anyone else in the future!
