Hi,
This is my first post, so I'm not sure what I'm doing. I am 11 weeks 3 days and this is my first pregnancy (a shock!). I had aggressive breast cancer at 34 and was advised that it was extremely unlikely that I would be able to conceive. I grieved and then unexpectedly found out I was pregnant in June! Because of my age I'm really worried about Downs and the risk of something going wrong. 12 week scan next Tuesday and I'm counting down the days. Also, all my symptoms seem to have gone away today and so of course I'm worried about that too! I'm really sorry for the long post, but if anyone else has had a baby after chemo and been an 'older' Mum I'd love to hear from you. Thank you so much. xxx

Hi, currently 2 days overdue with my second at 36, my first was pre bc at 33, was dx when she was 11 months.. I had 8 rounds of EC/TAX then bilateral mx, then 15 x radio on my er+ 8 out of 8 6.5cm tumour.... I was told in last Sept after bloods and scans that there were no eggs / hormones showed menopause levels and I too was devastated, I longed to give my daughter a sibling and get something back on the evil cancer...... so I too had a huge shock 3 months later to be naturally pregnant - had had prostrap (zoladex) for most of the last 3 years so it was just taking time to wear off I think!!

So, I totally know where you are coming from.

  1. the placenta begins to take over at 11/12 ish weeks, hence symptoms can seem to retreat.

  2. anxiety / not knowing what is happening also never goes away!!!!

  3. was your cancer er+? You say aggressive so am assuming triple neg, and if so, a friend sent me this study showing that pregnancy after TN / er neg can actually be beneficial!!

Anyhow, just to say, good luck, you will prob feel in the minority in your situ, but there are more of us out there, so fingers crossed for scan!!!!

Thank you so much for replying. It's so lovely to read your story what a lovely, brilliant thing, the human body is amazing isn't it. I had 6 rounds of FEC-T and a bi-lateral mx. Mine was ER and PR + and grade 3 which they said was an aggressive bugger. I am the 9th in 3 generations to have had BC as a 'young' person and the first to have survived. Ridiculous.
I feel reassured and very happy that you are so close now, I wish you all the luck in the world for you birth, huge congratulations to you. And thanks again!!
