Hi all

I'm currently 28+1 And have preeclampsia which is being treated in hospital but my BP does spike every couple of days which isn't great for baby.

However today I've had a doppler scan on the cord and there is an issue with the blood flow, not terrible but definitely not great and the baby is on the small side.

Anyone got experience of placental insufficiency like this? I'm having an in-depth scan tomorrow in London to see what damage is being caused but they need to decide what's best for the baby.

Me and my partner are worried about what long term effects are being caused now duh as cerebral palsy etc and I don't want to Google too much as it could cause more stress!

Hi

Just wanted to start off by saying congratulations and also try not to worry! It is probably good to note that I went through my pregnancy and delivery in the US, though now living in the U.K. I also went through pre-eclampsia as I had high blood pressure, and vision problems. This started about 33 weeks. At my 35 week scan my DD was measuring in the 7th percentile for her gestational age so my doctor ordered a level 2 ultrasound along with twice weekly non stress tests to monitor the baby's and my heart rate. Everything seemed to be fine and the doctor who did the level 2 ultrasound said it could just a case that she's a small baby. The non stress tests were going fine and at 38 weeks I went for another level 2 ultrasound, and they discovered my DD had dropped to the 4th percentile 😓. The following day I went for my NST and my blood pressure was through the roof. The doctor came in and said if my BP didn't drop they were going to keep me and induce (the NST were administered at the hospital). After about 2 hours of monitoring us my blood pressure went down to a reasonable level and they let me leave but i was going back the following day to be induced. When I went back to the hospital I hadn't started to dialate at all so they gave me cervadil, 12 hours later they checked my cervix and nothing had happened. A couple of hours later at 7:30am the nurses came in to administer pitocin to get me going and as they were getting the IV set up my DD heart rate dropped from 165 to 70, and then to 35. Next thing I know they're getting me ready for a C section and 30 minutes later I delivered a beautiful healthy baby girl. She came out weighing 5lbs, 15 ounces. My placenta was sent out to a lab for testing and when the results came back they told me my placenta was small and damaged which is why she was on the small side. Unfortunately she did drop more weight while we were in the hospital (5lbs 5oz) but she will be 3 months old on Friday and she is perfect in every way! At 1 week old people were commenting on how alert she was and she received 9s on both of her APGAR scores. At her 2 month check up she weighed 9 and a half pounds. Sorry I hope I didn't overload you with too much information but I remember being so worried and nervous about her wellbeing. I know all pregnancies are different but I hope everything goes well in London and maybe some of the methods they used in the US can be used on you here.

Best of luck!
