post to correct place

I was on duculax liquid pre pregnancy and up to around 8weeks. Unfortunately, although my doctor said I could continue it in a lower dosage throughout pregnancy, baby did not agree with it. It made me horrendously sick, it came back up straight away.

I've previously tried : movicol, duxulax tablets, benefiber, lactulose, and various other fiber sachets and bowel simulators.

No matter what I do in terms in food, nothing helps.

It's been 5 days and while thats not longest I've gone for without a movement it's really starting to make me ill. I feel quite sick and my stomach is hard and tender.

I'm still passing gas so doesn't appear to be any blockages.

Im uping my water intake today in the blind hope that it helps along with warm compresses on my sides around bump (not too hot)

Is there ANYTHING else anyone can recommend? I feel like I'm running out of room in there and it's not pleasant.

I plan to call my GP tomorrow when they open should nothing happen. But for today, any help?

Are you under a specialist? I have IBS-C and am early stage pregnancy. I've been off my meds for the whole TTC journey and have just coped with things along with using my DIY irregation system when things get bad, which I won't be able to use now. I am seeing specialist in September so will ask for advice then

OnNaturesCourse · 30/07/2017 11:48

I'm just under my GP. It's been pretty well managed before, well kind of.

I have ran out of things to try now.

Any juices make me sick and gag, and rarely stay down.

In terms of the usual fruits etc I generally stay away from them as they cause unbelievable cramps which have previously landed me in hospital. My GP has advised that I limit my intake which is why I am more medically "controlled"

Has anyone heard of increased water working? Or certain stretches?

I have horrific ibs awaiting bowel transit studies and take a drug called prucalopride (not safe in pregnancy) when I was pregnant I drank loads of prune juice but when I got gestational diabetes I couldn't even drink that! My lifesaver was the little packs of marks and spencers sugar free sweets the wine gums were the best sugar free sweets are a laxative and a couple packs got me going without fail!

OnNaturesCourse · 30/07/2017 11:54

Wine gums? I would never have thought of that. I'll definitely try it when I can summon the energy to drag myself out the house. Thank you x

Have you got a little step stool you can put your feet on when on the loo so that you are in a better position? (humans are naturally built to squat whilst pooping) I had similar issues but managed with prune juice so can't really suggest anything medical. The other thing that worked for me was to drink two pints of water when I first woke up, seemed to help flush things through. Also I haven't dried it but increasing your fat intake can apparently help...makes things greasy...

NotTheCoolMum · 30/07/2017 11:58

Cosmocol?

Large glasses of warm water throughout the day

OnNaturesCourse · 30/07/2017 11:59

Yeah I have the stool and have, embarrassingly, even tried the squatting down.

The things I will try are limitless.

Prucalopride is the drug I was taking until I started TTC.

The specialist I see referred me to a dietician and I learnt what caused my terrible cramps which luckily are rare now. The main culprits were Bisto gravy, broccoli and cauliflower, red onion and cabbage (so coleslaw is banned). Google FODMAP diet to see if that helps you.

Thanks for the M&S sweets tip Bumplovin, may have to invest

OnNaturesCourse · 30/07/2017 11:59

Cosmocol? Never heard of it, I will go look it up.

My other trouble is I am such a fussy eater 😂 I put all my "good" stuff in soup to eat as I can't stomach most textures.

Liquorice always used to work well for me but it's not recommended in pregnancy as it can increase blood pressure Sad

OnNaturesCourse · 30/07/2017 13:45

TMI but my tummy has got really noisy so I'm hoping this water is doing something in there.

I've read in moderation it's OK? I've been eating it all the way through!

I was in a similar situation some weeks ago following surgery, I had to resort to 'manual measures' if you get my meaning. Once the hard bit had gone the rest followed. Hope you get sorted soon

Bumpkin21 · 30/07/2017 19:41

Have you tried Colpermin? May be a bit elementary for you as it seems you've tried a lot, but it works for me! And doing some yoga twists helps to relieve the pain and get things moving - there are a few on YouTube.

Bumdishcloths · 30/07/2017 21:00

Yes in moderation it's ok - but I never used to eat it in moderation 😂

Bumplovin · 31/07/2017 12:06

Fresh figs are also good but a bit pricy to be buying all the time but they don't taste too bad

Bumplovin · 31/07/2017 12:08

Oh and my women's health Physio said to put linseeds on my cereal and in yoghurt although I found some literature querying linseeds in pregnancy but took them because the Physio was an antenatal Physio and I trusted her

juneau · 31/07/2017 12:11

Water, water, water. I have IBS-C and had a horrendous time with both my pregnancies as a result. However, a couple of litres (or more), of water every day really helped. It means you're basically drinking pints of the stuff ALL THE BLOODY TIME, but with all the things you can't take in pregnancy your choices are definitely limited. A sachet of Fybogel morning and evening can help too, although you may be past that. Once you've cleared this blockage though that might help going forward.

OnNaturesCourse · 01/08/2017 11:59

Water and porridge and beans were the trick

Porridge for breakfast
3L of water and 1L diluted orange
Baked beans for lunch and dinner
Porridge for supper.

And heat on my belly... Just warm enough to feel.

Boring food day but things moved the next day.

I'm going to maintain the water intake.

Are you on any sickness medication which could be causing issues? Like ondansetron?

OnNaturesCourse · 01/08/2017 12:08

Hi Lemon. How are you?

No all my sickness medication has been stopped as I only have nausea now with occasional sickness. (And I've pretty much worked out the triggers)

Xx
