'Pap smear' feeling late pregnancy

Hi ladies,
Random question.....I'm 37 weeks tomorrow and have been getting this awful scratchy feeling in my cervix that reminds me of having a Pap smear. Does anyone know what this is /causing it?? I never experienced anything like it with my first child. It's actually quite horrible and I will shriek in pain. Hubby looks at me like 'what are you doing!?!?
Any suggestions?

I believe that's what's we, delightfully, call 'fanny daggers'.

I presume you're in the US from your use of the word 'pap' so to avoid ambiguity 'fanny' in this context refers to your vagina.

I had a shooting scratchy pain in my cervix on and off for the last weeks of pregnancy. Sometimes it was stabby all the way up, sometimes it genuinely felt like DD was scratching my cervix from the inside with her nails (which was a vile thought).

I believe it's down to the stretching of your innards, and the pressure on your cervix pulling on nerves that usually go un-pulled.

Hey kingfisher, thanks for your reply, I'm actually from NZ :) just figured most people worldwide would know what a Pap smear was haha.
It's bloody awful, I thought the fanny daggers was the shooting pain I'd been having down my groin haha 😂😂 this is totally like someone trying to claw their way out of my cervix. I just told my hubby I'm starting to feel miserable, he said 'why, do you feel ill?' It's like, NO I just want this baby to get out now!.,

The International Language of Pap!

Fanny daggers are the shooting type of pain, but I reckon the scratching type of pain is just the shooting pain higher up, or at least due to the same pressure on your pelvic floor/cervix. It really did feel like the little beast trying to get out though.

Those last weeks of pregnancy are the worst! I was so distracted by my own enormity that I almost lost sight of the fact I'd have a new baby very soon.

I'd convinced myself that DD would come at 37-39 weeks, it was such an straight forward pregnancy (medically straight forward, physically it was still hard lugging my enormous self around, needing a wee every 10 minutes) that I thought the birth would also be a nice, at-term, breeze.

I was furious that she didn't pop out in that two week period.

I believe the 'get this baby out of me' phase is a necessary part of pregnancy. It's like your body needs to say "enough-is-enough".

Good luck! It'll be soon, even if you deliver at the very last possible point (42 weeks in the U.K.) it's SOON!
