I feel like I should know this but I just want to double check before I go to a dinner party - can I have prawn cocktail for my starter?
The other option is pate so if I can't I'm just eating bread Hmm the joys!

Is it likely to be fresh mayo that may have been made with raw eggs instead of pasteurised? The prawns themselves are fine as long as they are cooked properly.

Capes I'm so happy for you (been around for ages under various names, aye being the first). You've made my day! I'd give the prawns a miss though stash some sweeties in your bag

Flossy1978 · 29/07/2017 15:35

Of course you can. It is cooked. Too many people carry on ehen pregnant. Thr chances of getting Listeria from food is something like .001%. People in Italy drink all through their pregnancies and their kids aren't all suffering from issues etc.

NoCapes · 29/07/2017 15:52

No it won't be fresh mayo, it was the prawns I was unsure of
Thanks all

And aye I offen wonder if you're still around! Thankyou Grin

I'm still here, just incognito Grin well not anymore but you know what I mean. I literally could not be happier for you, I told Skyye too and she's thrilled!

During my last pregnancy I went on holiday to Northumberland and had the most delicious shellfish steamer with prawn, crab claws and mussels, in a delicious sauce. All fully cooked, all safe to eat. It was the highlight of the holiday.

I want one so bad I wouldn't mind driving back up there to have one. It's worth a 7 hour drive, right?

Capes!!!!! congrats on the little squidge Flowers as for prawns... pretty sure they're ok but I'm not well versed being vegetarian... when I was pg the midwife just skipped a whole paragraphs worth of banned food when I told her I was veggie

I can't recommend more highly the Expecting Better book. I found it really reassuring about the whole 'rules' of pregnancy stuff. From what I remember the only absolute no no was shark.

I had plenty of prawns, smoked salmon, runny cheese and even the occasional mouthful of pate throughout my pregnancy.

I treated myself to a small glass of wine every Friday night after 20 weeks and was generally chilled out about stuff as much as possible. DD is now here and whilst she is a rather strange and hyperactive creature (currently trying to climb the curtains at 6 months old) she is otherwise fineish Grin

Congratulations [flower]

I hope do as I just ate a load on top of a jacket potato Grin NHS say cold cooked prawns are fine and I assumed it was shop bought (and therefore pasteurised) mayo.

NC but I was rooting for you through all the GEG threads. Hearing your news has made me disproportionately happy GrinGrin congrats!!

Maryann1975 · 29/07/2017 20:24

I think they used to say avoid them, but I love them so always eat them anyway. A midwife friend told me it was in case they weren't cooked properly,so as long as they are, you.'re fine.
