Exposed to chicken pox

I'm a bit worried.
A boy I look after has just been diagnosed with chicken pox.
I'm worried this could be potentially harmful to my unborn baby.
I've had chicken pox.
The boy in question has had chicken pox, which is why we didn't suspect it when he got a few spots the other day!

I'm hoping I should be immune, but when you Google and read about chicken pox causing defects, you can't help but worry!

I have my midwife booking appointment in a couple of weeks, do you think I can wait until then to ask about it, or should I contact my GP and get advice sooner?

I had the same experience - if you've had chicken pox the NHS say you are immune & cannot pass it on to your baby unless you're imminently giving birth. If you haven't even had your booking appointment yet there's no need to worry Smile

Have a look on the NHS website for reassurance or phone NHS direct, not worth a trip to the Drs IMO.

You're fine. No problem if you've already had it. No need for GP. By all means speak to your midwife.

Thanks

If you've had it, you'll be fine. I was exposed and my mum told me I'd never had chickenpox so I had a private blood test to check chickenpox antibodies (IgG). It cost £50 and it really put my mind at rest, but I only had it because I didn't know whether I'd ever had it before.

This happened to me. Midwife said as I'd already had chicken pox it was fine as I had immunity. DS born safe and well!

DC1 had chickenpox when I was 18 weeks pregnant... Dr not concerned at all as I had it as a child and am therefore immune... Your immunity protects baby. Give your GP or midwife a call if it will help to settle your mind but I really wouldn't worry if you have had it yourself.

Good luck with everything.
