So I'm 35 weeks pregnant and this morning I woke up feeling dreadful. Nauseous all day and diarrhoea about 10 times. I've managed to eat a sandwich which I had to force down me whilst heaving. I'm dizzy, sweaty and fed up!
I had hypermesis for the first 20 weeks but it's not the same as this.
I'm hoping it's just a 24 hour thing. Just wanting some advice really in case I'm feeling like this tomorrow. Can being ill harm baby? Or do I need to man up and rest and just try to keep fluids up?

Ring your midwife if you are concerned. She will let you know what you can take to help.

It might also be the start of labour - your body having a clear out before labour begins?

Kittysparks1 · 28/07/2017 23:33

Ah my midwife is crap. She only works 1 day a week and never replies to any calls. It took me ages to get an appointment didn't actually see her until I was 24 weeks pregnant so I won't bother trying to contact her. I'll call the doctor on Monday if I'm still poorly. Just wanted to know if I should be concerned or if getting a bug/virus can do any damage at this stage.
I hope it's not labour. I have not prepared myself for that yet! If it is do I need to let anyone know because it's early or just carry on and turn up at hospital when I can't cope anymore?

I think you are in latent Labour. I was like that before I lost my plug and in full blown Labour 24hrs later. Baby is 5wks old now. Good luck

get some diralyite to replace lost salts and keep fluids up. having a tummy bug won't harm baby. sometimes diarrhea can occur prior to labour but 10 x sounds more like a bug to me. are movements etc still ok ?

Pinkkahori · 29/07/2017 04:57

Possibly a bug but I had hyperemesis in 2 pregnancies. The first time it lasted right through but the second time the nausea and vomiting stopped at 18 weeks but came back for the last few weeks. Hope it's not that and just a brief bug you have.

There is a sickness bug doing the rounds at the minute. DH and I have both had it the last few days, as have a few friends of ours and work colleagues. It's awful, projectile vomiting with cold symptoms - shivering, sweating, headache, etc. Ive lost 5lbs in the last 2 days. I've done lots of googling and it shouldn't harm the baby - advice is to stay hydrated which is difficult when everything comes straight back up! I hope you feel better soon.

Call the maternity ward (the 24 hour phone number they give you) and ask for advice. I had a horrible sickness bug in late pregnancy and it really laid me low for a few days, couldn't eat etc, called the labour ward and they asked me to come in as they wanted to monitor the baby.

Generally the baby will take what it needs from you (leaving you feeling worse, sadly!) so will be OK, but ime if it's really bad they like to make extra sure baby is OK and still moving around and strong heartbeat etc. They may also give you rehydration stuff if you need it and this continues over the weekend. Call the maternity ward! In the meantime drink as much water as possible and try to eat. Sorry you're feeling so lousy!

Thank you all for your replies. I woke up this morning and still feel crap but I can drink water just fine.
I'll see how I get on today. It reassuring to know baby won't be affected.
I'm grumpy!
