Movement at 25+2

Not sure if I'm being a bit of a worrier.

I'm 25 weeks plus 2 days and have been feeling baby move quite a lot most days (6, 7, 8 occurrences of strong movement during the day, especially before I go to sleep).

Today I've not felt as much, maybe 2 or 3 light movements throughout the day.

Phoned triage who said as I'm only 25 wks to call community midwife office first but ring back if I couldn't get through.

I didn't get through, so phoned triage back and spoke to a different midwife. She said it wasn't worrying and she didn't think it was worth me going in as it was very busy and they don't do monitoring at this gestation. That's all fine - I understand and know that baby probably hasn't got a set routine yet.

I did get a bit upset on the phone and she was very nice. Advised me to eat a very sugar snack and have a cold sugary drink and a nice long rest. She said baby is probably just having a quiet day. She said to phone back if I am still worried after trying that.

I've done this and have felt some stronger movement so I do feel reassured.

Just after some comfort really, it's unnerving to experience a change in movement even this early on. Feeling a bit emotional today regardless of this I think!

What are other people's experiences with movements and when did you become familiar with your baby's pattern?

Thanks everyone :)

Where is your placenta located? This is similar to worrys I had although I have an anterior placenta which cushions movements at 23 weeks I was seeing movements from the outside then around 25 weeks didn't see them for around a week and rarely felt baby move. I was worried too and only now at 27 weeks I am seeing kicks and feeling them stronger again. I think baby's have quiet days and move position a lot which means you may not feel baby as much. However I'm not a doctor and we're all different if you are really worried as I imagine you will be I would just tell them you are going in for piece of mind they shouldn't turn you away x

Ive had movements issues with all three of my pregnancies n been in n got checked over, not sure when these started but I've always felt a bit u know about going at the time n then when i know all is ok its like a weight off my shoulders! At end of the day would never forgive myself if ignored n didn't do anything n then something was wrong, I'm not sure when they start monitoring tbh but would of thought it was about now cos baby can survive if born early so its not like they cant do anything, my midwife always stresses to keep an eye on movements. Hope everything is ok xx

I'm 28+1 and it is only really in the last week or two that I have started to get more consistent movements and definitely still no "pattern" as such, I am just keeping an eye out for any extended periods of time with no movement. I keep telling myself it is a baby, not a robot, and there is bound to be some variation!

You definitely did the right thing calling and speaking to the midwife, if they are not worried then I would take that as a good sign, but keep an eye on things and don't be afraid to call back again if you still feel that you aren't getting much movement.

It's a really tricky thing and the guidelines are so vague (because everyone varies so much) that it can be really stressful trying to monitor, so just try and stick with the advice of if in doubt, give them a call!

My son was so inconsistent with his pattern of movement when I was pregnant - I ended up having an induction just before 38w because of it. I never found sugary snacks or
cold drinks really helped and I was forever over the hospital. In the end he was so high up and cushioned by my (surprisingly, considering I'm overweight) strong stomach muscles Grin

However - if you are concerned, do what you need to do to get that ultimate reassurance. You can trace a baby at this gestation - I was in hospital at 24w and I know they had me on a monitor so it's possible. If they're insistent they can't, the community midwives have dopplers and are trained to use them if needs be.

I found around this stage that because they still have quite a bit of room, they can flip and turn and it could be that baby is kicking toward your back, which is cushioned a bit more. But like I said, if you have any doubt whatsoever, get it checked out.

Thanks for everyone's responses. :)

Baby started moving more when I went for a rest after a huge piece of cake and half a carton of cranberry juice! So I am going to put my trust in the experience of the midwife for now and just keep a close eye on the movements.

9 months of worry is such a long time. I know it's just the beginning of a lifetime of worry but part of me thinks when the baby is here I'll at least have some sort of control over keeping it safe!!

Honestly the worry does settle a bit once they're here because you can visibly see them and ask for advice with them in front of you Wink I hated pregnancy tbh, I was a ball of worry, but since my DS has been born it's lessened significant after the hormones came out of my system Smile

Good luck and congratulations Flowers
