Hi all Smile

I've recently found out I'm pregnant! According to my calculations baby should be due end of March.

Husband and I are over the moon....nervous too, as it's our first time! x

I'm pregnant!

Congratuations! I remember getting my first positive on a cb digital - so exciting to see that word come up!!!

JamdaniSari · 28/07/2017 00:34

That was my second test....just in case the first, supermarket's own, was wrong haha. Yeah it's the most surreal thing to see it turn from - into + before your eyes!

Thank you Smile

JamdaniSari · 28/07/2017 00:43

Thank you 😀

I'm not entirely sure what happens with regards to medical advice etc...

I phoned my Dr the following day and they said they wouldn't see me until after 8 weeks! Bearing in mind this is my first time, 8 weeks is loooong. The receptionist said I would be assigned to a midwife (something like that) at this time. Surely I will be seen by someone when I phone them back after 8 weeks...or will I have to wait until after I've been assigned?

Congratulations!

Depending on where you live, you can self refer yourself to see a midwife for your 8 week appointment or, in other places, your Dr has to refer you. Where I live in the UK I self referred at 6 weeks and have an appointment with a midwife when I will be 8+2.

Are you in the UK?

JamdaniSari · 28/07/2017 09:09

Thank you.

Yes I'm in and from the UK.

Google where you live and pregnancy self referral and see if you can do this as you'll likely be booked in to see a midwife when you're around 8 weeks rather than having to wait till 8 weeks to be referred via Dr, then wait for an appointment meaning you'll be seen nearer 10 weeks probably. Not everywhere offers it but worth a try.

Brenna24 · 28/07/2017 11:58

Congratulations. Grin

Don't forget they count the weeks starting from the day of your last menstrual period (LMP), which the CB digital counts from conception (2 weeks later), so 2-3 weeks on a CB is 4-5 weeks pregnant, so that is 2 weeks less to wait for your 8 week appointment. If you aren't taking folic acid, start doing so now, Vit D is also good to take. There is loads of dietary advice online - but it basically comes down to avoiding certain cheeses, raw seafood, raw cured meats, only eat eggs with runny yolks if they are lion marked, no pate, try to avoid liver as it has too much Vit A in it (And don't take Vit supplements with Vit A in), don't eat shark or dogfish (too much mercury) and no more than about 2 portions of tuna per week (again mercury). Don't do any new exercises you weren't previously doing without clearing it with a Dr or midwife (but keep up what you are doing as long as you feel ok doing it, listen to your body). There is a smarphone app, plus a website, for the main booklet they give you Ready, Steady Baby. The web address is www. readysteadybaby.org.uk .

That is the main stuff you will be needing to know before the booking in appointment - anyone who sees anything missing in there feel free to add to it.

Good luck Flowers

@SheSaidHeSaid Thank you for your advice. I had a Google and unfortunately they don't have that service where I live :( I phoned my GP surgery and the lady I spoke to took my number, confirmed my details and said the midwife would be in contact. I would be meeting with her around the 10 week mark! 10 weeks!!! When I queried this she confirmed this was the procedure. I asked what if I felt something was wrong before then, to which she replied I should make an appointment at that point. Annoyed but she was a lot helpful than the lady who I spoke to on Monday. She didn't even check or take my name and contact details....she did say she was covering reception for someone else...Thanks again. I wouldn't have contacted the surgery again if you hadn't suggested self referrals 😘 x

@Brenna24 Thank you for all that information 😘x I have been taking Seven Seas Trying For a Baby supplements. I believe they contain Folic Acid and Vit A. I will speak to a pharmacist over the weekend and stock up. Many thanks once again x

They are fine, the have the 400ug Folic acid, no Vit A and some Vit D. You are good to go. To be honest, having had several miscarriages, there is not much they can do for you. If something goes wrong and you miscarry, you miscarry and that is it. My midwife referred me to the Early Pregnancy Unit with my first round of early bleeding. Our EPU is self referral though (I just didn't know it existed until that point), so since then I have just dealt with them directly and have only done the regular midwife appointments as standard. You will have a local EPU, some are self referral, some aren't. Some will scan you if you have bleeding, some won't. It is a bit of a lottery what care you get (sorry to be a downer there). Ours is really, really good and i have nothing but praise for them. It is well worthwhile finding out where yours is, how to get in contact and whether it is self referral or not. Hopefully you will never need it.

It is also worth knowing that bleeding in early pregnancy is very common and comes from a variety of sources such as the palcenta growing and nicking blood vessels (implantation bleeding), an irritable cervix (my usual problem), benign haematomas etc. Most of them are not a danger to your pregnancy. I am currently 11 weeks pregnant with my 4th pregnancy - 1st to get this far. I had 9 days worth of bleeding from 6 to 7.5 weeks, red blood. I had a scan at 6 weeks which showed baby was fine (day after the bleeding started) and one at 9w3d and baby was right on target growth wise with no problems. Cramping is also common, as is sharper pains when your ligaments holding your uterus in place stretch as it grows. Bleeding and cramping together are more of an issue. Any bleeding though and I would get in touch and get advice, just don't panic. If your EPU is self referral then go straight there, don't bother with your surgery first, that is just an extra layer of appointments an time wasted.

Hi So I've just done a pregnancy test this which is positive !
I've got these mild twinges in the area and I'm Just checking if others had this (I'm only 8dpo) as I don't have it with my first pregnancy and am hoping it is normal and not eptopic!
Thank you

Buddy14 · 28/07/2017 12:46

So sorry didn't mean to hijack this thread - apologies OP - was an accident
Will start another one

JamdaniSari · 28/07/2017 14:12

@Brenna24 Thank you so much 😘
You certainly know your stuff! Im really hopeful for you! You will be fine 😘 I've had a look online and unfortunately my EPU isn't self referral! Ugh. X

Thanks jamdani. Those are just the things I wish I had known first time round. Happy to pass it on and make life a little easier for someone else. Shame yours isn't self referral. That saves a bit of time and aggro with Drs receptionists. I hope you never need to see them (I am ashamed to say mine now remember me so well they ask for updates in my life when I go in Blush). I am quite hopeful for this one. We have never made it near to this stage before and I have medication to help. 12 weeks scan is next friday. I am halfway inbetween excited and utterly bricking it.

Congratulations Buddy

Thank you Jamdani. Baby was alive and healthy and measuring 12 weeks and 4 days. That was a huge relief. This one has a chance.

I hope things are going well for you.

I'm pregnant!
JamdaniSari · 08/08/2017 15:49

@Brenna24 - Oh wow. What a clear photo!! So so happy for you Smile Will you be finding out if you will be having a boy or girl?
I've been feeling sickly now and again since the weekend :( I will be 7 weeks on Thurs. Just looking forward to seeing the initial meeting with the nurse and passing the 12 week mark x

Brenna24 · 08/08/2017 19:44

I think we are going to keep it a surprise. Grin

You are getting closer to that meeting, each day you get safer and safer. I still feel sick now. It was very reassuring but I admit I am starting to be over it now and could quite happily say goodbye to it.

Good luck, not long until your booking in appointment now. Flowers
