Actually, when my DS was tiny, I used to read Baby Hearts and Baby Flowers, which is also rather lovely, but I did get tired of it. www.amazon.com/Baby-Hearts-Flowers-Remy-Charlip/dp/0060295910?tag=mumsnetforum-21

Place-marking 😊

Lovely thread.

YYY to Ten Little Fingers. We read it every night and DD (13 months) puts her face up for the kiss at the end! Sob!

Also, Owl Babies.

My parents bought me a gorgeous Winnie the Pooh book when I was a baby, I still have it now and read it to my DS.

Watching Smile

We bought DS the Winnie the Pooh full collection

Those who are suggesting goodnight moon, is it this one?! Just want to confirm as I can't see anything that would suggest the B&W pages and would have thought that would be a selling point!

There's a book my mom read me when I was in the womb and out. It's called, "Are you my mother?" By P.D Eastman. I've been reading it to my baby since I was about 16 weeks.

That's the one, GrumpyGoose. The pages alternate, one double spread in colour, one in black and white.

Reading it with a straight face did become harder after seeing this blog post, though

Deploy hahahaha that was hilarious and I haven't even read the book yet Grin

Rainatnight · 27/07/2017 14:25

Love you forever by Robert Munsch - makes me cry...

fatfingeredfran · 28/07/2017 22:25

Does anyone have any suggestions that aren't too soppy? I'm not big into super cutesy tear jerkers but would like to get some books to read to our newborn too.

Elledouble · 28/07/2017 22:33

Goodnight Spaceman is a nice one (Tim Peake read it on the CBeebies bedtime story slot from space!) and not particularly weepy.

Peepo, definitely (also not weepy unless it makes you think of your own childhood like it does me).

Where The Wild Things Are.

lookatthemoon · 28/07/2017 22:34

Fran - I have a book called Poo Bum by Stephanie Blake. I loved it because it made me laugh so much. Not sure how infant DS felt about it but as a toddler he loves it!

I also had a little Babar book I used to read to DS as an infant. Very little text but I loved the artwork in it.

No soppiness in either!

hockityponktas · 28/07/2017 22:40

I enjoyed reading my dds my old favorites from my childhood:

The tiger who came to tea and all the mog stories by Judith Kerr
Bye bye baby, Each peach pear plum,
Peepo by Janet and Allen allberg (sp)

Oh there's loads more but I've gone blank!

As they got older I enjoyed reading the "new classics" gruffallo, room on the broom, monkey puzzle etc and then it all changed and all they wanted to listen to was the bloody rainbow fairy booksHmm

hockityponktas · 28/07/2017 22:44

Oh and whatever next, the one where the bear pretends to go into space. Can't remember who it's written by?
And the alfie and Annie rose books by Shirley Hughes.

sauceyorange · 28/07/2017 22:48

The wee gallery art cards are lovely, nice enough to frame. And the babies love looking at black and white pictures

RedastheRose · 28/07/2017 22:58

Winnie the Pooh was a favourite for dd1 Bedtime Bear was a favourite for Dd2

mrsbumblebees · 28/07/2017 23:01

Elledouble · 29/07/2017 08:56

hockityponktas what do you mean "pretends" ShockWink

That's Whatever Next by Jill Murphy Smile

hockityponktas · 29/07/2017 09:07

Elle whoops sorry don't how that 'pretend' got in there obviously he really went into space, he had a special colander hat and everything!

Yes, Jill Murphy! Her 'large family' books are lovely too.

The one with the bear family where the daddy gets kept awake all night, is that Jill Murphy too? The name escapes me..
