Hey all im 37+6 days with first baby.
Yesterday, around 11am, i started with excruciating period pain that wouldn't ease up.. Rang hospital they said have paracetamol a bath and chill. I did and then went shopping around 5 as felt okay. Walking around asda and these pains were getting worse, coming and going and making me go dizzy and eyes funny. Come home and started to cry with them so rang hospital and they had to redirect me to a different one as the unit was closed for admissions.
Go in to be checked, cervix not dialated at all... Monitor not picking my contractions up but they were all in my back. Baby happy on there though.

Just wondering if anyone has been through this? Kind of feel abit silly really. Woke up at 4am uncomfortable again and now i still have the period pains but not as bad just feel exhausted. Is labour soon or is my body playing tricks on me??

Thanks all.

To be honest it could go either way. With my DD that's how labour started but was a slow 4 day process.
With this baby I contracted regularly for 3 days but my cervix is happily sat at 2cm (I'm having a c section so very happy for it to stay as it is)
Plenty of rest helps me ease it Flowers

No idea gems but I had what felt like contractions 5 minutes apart last Monday night but they got less intense rather than more. Last night they were ten minutes apart and getting more intense, then I just dosed off ... this morning - nothing. So frustrating. Keep thinking my body is gearing up but now thinking this is me for the next four weeks (am 38+1) x

I had proper contractions off and on for six days with DD1 and for three days with DD2. I also had very painful braxton hicks with DD2.

Early labour happens differently for different women, but they are unlikely to admit you until you're in established labour (usually three contractions every ten minutes), so better to just try to get as comfortable as possible and work with your body.

I found the following things helpful:

  • my lovely lovely TENS machine
  • walking
  • bouncing on my birthing ball
  • listening to calm music through headphones
  • being somewhere dark and quiet
  • just letting it happen rather than wondering what would happen next (very difficult to do!)

Good luck Flowers
You'll meet your baby soon!
