Bump measuring small

Had my midwife appointment yesterday. Am 29 weeks and measuring 26cm so having to go for a scan at the end of the week.

I know these things don't mean anything and just because my bump is small it doesn't mean my baby is small, however I can't help but question if I've done anything wrong in the last 7 months!

The main thing I keep worrying about is the fact I keep waking up on my back in the night. I've started sleeping with 3 pillows so I feel more propped up but could this have caused stunted growth if I'm on my back and stopping oxygen getting to my baby??
Any advice or reassurance would be great! I know it's a pretty random post!

Please don't worry, at 24 weeks My bump was measuring 4 or 5 weeks behind but the baby was measuring the "right" size on the scan. Even if it turns out the baby is a little smaller than expected it doesn't necessarily mean there is a problem and please please don't think it is because you have done anything wrong!!!

I am very dubious about the not sleeping on your back thing, it has never been mentioned to me by any health professional and I'm pretty sure women have been doing it for thousands of years. Plus how the hell are you supposed to stop yourself rolling over in your sleep?! I can't imagine this would have anything to do with the size of your baby! Pregnant women are made to worry/feel guilty about all sorts of stupid things, please don't look to blame yourself for anything.

My bump was measured as three weeks small on a Friday afternoon. By the Monday morning two different midwives measured it. One made it a week too small and the other one exactly right. The fundal measurement is hugely open to error and probably causes far more concern than it does good. Growth scans are more accurate, but even they have a large scoop of error as well.

Don't worry about sleeping on your back. The advice has changed away from sleeping on your left side. Your body will wake you up or move you onto your side if it needs to. It won't damage the baby.

My bump measured at 33 weeks at my 36 week appointment but i had a Scan for the next day anyway. Baby fine measures a week behind but they not concerned. Went into hospital week after as not well and bump measured correctly. I wouldn't worry too much.

My wee one always measured at least 6 weeks behind from bump measurements and was born at 37 weeks at 6lb so don't worry too much :) she's just small in general but perfectly healthy!

Rockandrollwithit · 26/07/2017 07:06

Don't worry, bump measurements can be inaccurate. I was measuring 3 weeks bigger at 29 weeks but at the scan baby was just average sized. Please don't worry too much.

Fundal height measurements are notoriously inaccurate! Too much depends on whose measuring it and the position of baby. The more relevant bit is whether the growth is following a trend rather than the measurements themselves.

I also worried about the sleeping position thing and asked my midwife. She assured me you would wake up if you began causing any affect!

Try not to worry, I bet the baby is fine. I measured big most of the time last time and baby was on the 0.4th centile when born.

Really don't worry about your sleeping position. In very late pregnancy last time if I lay flat on my back I would feel very dizzy but it definitely woke me up. This pregnancy I can't lie on my back without throwing up due to heartburn so it's solved that problem...

PhilippeFlop · 26/07/2017 07:19

Try not to worry OP. Both my bumps measured small (although they didn't feel like they were, I felt HUGE!!) both babies were fine

My fh was measured on successive days (had midwife one day and doctor the next) and doctor put it 2cm smaller! Think of it as an opportunity to see your dc again

Thank you everyone for your reassuring posts. Just had the scan and baby is perfect so panic over!!

I'm team yellow and was wondering if anyone else had a scan at around 29 weeks and is willing to post their measurements especially head circumference??
Apparently there is a correlation to boys having slightly bigger head than girls So I'm wondering if I could compare against mine to see if I can guess what I'm having!!
