Okay so I've seen a lot of hype about eating fresh pineapple to induce labour. I just wanted to know how much truth there is in this because I am currently 36 weeks pregnant and craving pineapple which I have given in to. But now I am worried because 36 weeks is still a little to early to be going into labour if this wives tale actually works 😂. What are the chances of this bringing on early labour? Baby is still breech so going into labour now would be a bit of a problem :/

After lots & lots of dc and trying all sorts I feel confident in saying that naff all will make your baby arrive before it's ready!!
Enjoy your last few weeks of pregnancy!!

My understanding is that you have to eat LOADS including the stalky bit in the middle. In my limited experience of one slightly late baby nothing works to bring on labour until baby is ready so I wouldn't worry.

I CRAVED pineapple when pregnant with twins and are tons. It contains some vitamin, which makes sense of the craving, can't remember what, but you're probably low in it.

Oh thats good to hear thank you so much 😁 I was told to lay off sugar even fruit sugar because babys stomach was measuring 3 weeks too big but I just can't help myself when it comes to all these fruits! We only stocked up last week and I'm needing more already haha.

I drank a ton of pineapple juice trying to get things moving before a scheduled induction at 38 weeks (so was drinking it from about 36 weeks) and it did nothing , so I think you should be ok!

I've heard this too but i think you'd be sick before eating enough! x

They say the bromelain in pineapple helps induce labour but you would need to eat about 7 whole pineapples in one sitting to get enough bromelain to have an effect

When I was pregnant with DC1 I craved pineapple like you wouldn't believe and was eating LOADS of it. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks - stuffing it in my face constantly.

Ended up with a section at 40+2 due to complications. If it didn't make me go into labour with the volumes I was eating, I find it hard to believe it would help anyone get things moving! ;-)

I think it was potassium that was the reason I craved, but pineapple is very good for you...see below

Pineapple fruit contains a proteolytic enzyme bromelain that digests food by breaking down protein. Bromelain also has anti-inflammatory, anti-clotting and anti-cancer properties. Studies have shown that consumption of pineapple regularly helps fight against arthritis, indigestion and worm infestation.

Fresh pineapple is an excellent source of antioxidant vitamin; vitamin-C. 100 g fruit contains 47.8 or 80% of this vitamin. Vitamin-C required for the collagen synthesis in the body. Collagen is the main structural protein in the body required for maintaining the integrity of blood vessels, skin, organs, and bones. Regular consumption of foods rich in vitamin-C helps the body protect from scurvy; develop resistance to combat infectious agents (boosts immunity) and scavenge harmful, pro-inflammatory free radicals from the body.

Further, ananas fruit is rich in the B-complex group of vitamins like folates, thiamin, pyridoxine, riboflavin and minerals like copper, manganese, and potassium. Potassium is an important component of cell and body fluids, helps controlling heart rate and blood pressure. Copper is an essential cofactor for red blood cell synthesis. Manganese is a co-factor for the enzyme superoxide dismutase, which is a very powerful free radical scavenger.
