What are the risks to early pregnancy (6-8 wks) by going on theme park rides?

I used to work at Thorpe park and on the big coasters etc it does say on the safety notice boards that you shouldnt ride them. Obviously like everything its your choice and at your own risk

thingymaboob · 24/07/2017 12:46

Is it really worth the risk?

intuition · 24/07/2017 12:48

No it's not!!

Asking for evidence to help me advise a young pregnant girl.

My doctor advised me to stop my dance lessons during my first trimester because she said the shaking was dangerous. So I can't imagine a roller coaster being any better

Any fast rides or rides that might jolt you would be bad. Little kiddies rides would probably be fine.

SheSaidHeSaid · 24/07/2017 14:16

Don't most theme parks have signs by certain rides saying whether you can or can't go on them when pregnant?

As a PP has said, slow moving, kiddie rides might be ok but the ones aimed at adults which swing you here, there, everywhere and throw you all over the place are more than likely not to be ok.

To be honest, I wouldn't go on any rides, it's just not worth the risk.

Depends on the rides...I went to Disney Paris for a hen do at 19 weeks...hardly anything I could go on. Peppa Pig world however...safe as houses!

I honestly can't imagine a single thing about a roller coaster that could harm a 6-8 week pregnancy. I played vigorous, contact sports right up until 12/13 weeks with both babies and the jolting and banging would have been worse sprinting around and bagging into people than flying round a track. Then I only stopped because the uterus rises above the pubic bone at that point and there's the risk of blunt force trauma.

Saying that, some people are more risk averse than others. Personally for me I'd anything had gone wrong I would have been more than confident in my belief that it was unrelated to my sporting activities and "just one of those things", but if the girl you're asking for wouldn't be so sure then it might not be worth it for her. Even though I can't imagine there is any scientific evidence of any risk.

We booked to go to Disneyland and then I found out I was pregnant, I was only 6ish weeks but I wouldn't go on the big rides, luckily my 2 dc were 3 & 1 so I only went on kids rides, I made sure I checked at guest information what was safe and what wasn't.
