Almost 37 weeks and suddenly can't walk

I'm coming up to 37 weeks and over the last few days I've started getting pains in my hip. It's been so bad today that I can no longer tolerate putting any weight on my left leg and have resorted to hopping around the house. Is this normal? This is my first pregnancy so I'm not sure if this is to be expected towards the end.

No this isn't 'normal'. Speak to your midwife I had sciatica about 34weeks into my first, it may be that?

It's normal but you still need to see a Dr asap and get an urgent referral to a physio.

It's normal because the ligaments around your hips are loosening up ready for their big debut in a few weeks time.

You need to be seen asap because you can do yourself permanent damage if it gets to be that painful without medical support and advice. Hopping about is not a good idea. Some women have to spend their last few weeks pg on crutches or in a wheelchair. But everything will spring back to normal once your baby is out.

Thank you for the advice. I'll call my midwife and gp and see what they suggest. Hopefully I can get something to help me get around easier, it would drive me crazy to br house bound for the next few weeks!

I had this - I would be walking along ahem, waddling, and my hip would just stop working. Agonising pain for the last few weeks of my pregnancy. On the plus side, I was miraculously better after baby was out - everything stopped hurting!

I had this and it went away 2 weeks gradually post birth. It's called pubis synthesis dysfunction and is caused by your pubis bone pulling apart abut too far in prep for labour ☺️It isn't very pleasant but I promise it does go away. I had to remember to keep legs together when getting up & off of bed/sofa - don't overdo it!

it would drive me crazy to be house bound for the next few weeks!

I hear you. But if you keep pushing yourself to move around as much as you want to for the next few weeks and manage to tear or rupture something you could be in pain for the rest of your life. If the price of your long term health is a sedentary or even housebound few weeks then fgs do what you are told by those who know.
