I'm 35 weeks today and my stitch will be removed on Tues. Keen to hear how long people went before labour once the stitch was removed?!x

My SIL had one and my niece was born just after 40 weeks.

TronaldDump · 23/07/2017 12:38

I had mine out at 36 weeks or so with both - DC1 came at 40+2 and DC2 had to be induced at 41+5 Hmm. Mine were both preventative due to a short cervix rather than going in due to signs of trouble - I will always wonder if I needed them!!

Thank you for all the replies. I'm praying for spontaneous labour once the stitch is removed! So fed up! Seems funny how you can have an incompetent cervix, yet carry to term once it's out!x

I'm afraid I found both quite painful and invasive - think the skin had grown around the stitch (god knows what's left of my cervix now!!!) but the good news is that it's quick and once it's out you feel like you're a 'normal' pregnant person if you know what I mean!

thingymaboob · 23/07/2017 15:44

I might be getting one due to previous LLETZ- are you put on bed rest?

FraggleRock77 · 23/07/2017 16:16

Thanks Tronald. Yes, Thingy I've been on bedrest for 13 weeks! Depends on your consultant though. Some don't advice it x

13 weeks on bedrest! Wow you poor thing.
Do you mind me asking a few questions as this might happen IF we choose to try for another child. I recently lost our little boy after he was born at 24 weeks and have been diagnosed with an incompetent cervix.
Are you at home or hospital?
First child? How did they know your cervix was incompetent?

FraggleRock77 · 23/07/2017 20:15

So So sorry for your loss Nice/Spice. You must be terrified about getting pregnant again?! Our first DS was born at 29 weeks. At the time they couldn't find another explanation and thought it was IC. With this pregnancy i had cervical scans from 18 weeks and my cervix shortened significantly at 22 weeks. I was stitched two days later. I've just been at home on bedrest with a high level of monitoring. If you look in the antenatal section there's a 'short cervix club' which is really helpful. You will however find that advice, action, monitoring and bedrest info differs greatly across the country. My consultant thought it the best option but some won't even stitch or advise resting. You need to do what's right for you x

Thank you for explaining all that. I appreciate the information.
My DD was born at 31 weeks so I had my first cervix length scan with DS at 23 weeks... i wish they'd done it sooner, and it sounds like from your situation that some consultants would've done.
It's great to hear that the stitch has worked for you. I'll check out that thread.... nice to know am not alone in all this.
Good luck with your pregnancy Smile

Thank you. And to you Nice/Spice x
