Aibu to be pissed off for doc in private clinic go on holiday

Less than 1 week after my edd. So my original edd was actually 1st of August and then moved to 25 July. And doc suggest to induce me on 26th because then he is on holiday from 28 or so. I find it unreasonable as induction increases risk of intervention. And I am not happy that I need to find alternative doc just 1 week before labour. It makes me stressed I don't like meeting quickly new people in general. Aibu feeling let down and want to complain about this?

When did he tell you he was going on holiday? If it was recently then you have a bit of a point that he perhaps could have warned you earlier.
However like everyone he is entitled to a holiday so not entriely sure on what grounds you'd complain.

This happened to me. My second child was a scheduled CS. After my final appointment with OB/Gyn before delivery, I overheard him asking his assistant to schedule DS's birth to a Thursday because he was golfing the next day. Flying down to Nice, in fact.

Are you in the U.K.? If so I am surprised a private obs has, absent anything else, suggested induction at 40+1?

I have had three babies (all spontaneous labours) under the same consultant but he missed the birth of the first (born at 38 weeks) as he was on holiday. We had however discussed previously his general cover arrangements for planned holidays.

I do think a private obstetrician should make him or herself available in almost any circumstances for a birth - that is what you are paying for in many respects, that particular person to deliver your child. When did he tell you that he would be away?

If you are unhappy / uneasy I would voice your concerns and ask what he proposes as induction is not an option for you (assuming you don't want that).

Unfortunately someone is probably always going to have their due date during the time the doctor is on holiday, and doc can't organize his/her life around patient due dates otherwise would never get any time off.

Would you rather be treated by doctors who are burned out and stressed from never having a holiday?

Depends on when he told you about the holiday tbh. My obgyn has told me that he may be on holiday but has told me who would be covering when he is etc.

Also my cousin in the US was induced at 38-39 weeks because her doctor was travelling the next week and she didn't want a new person. Up to you whether you want an induction around doctor's holiday or a different doctor but you can't begrudge someone needing a break at some point.

My reply was almost off-topic; sorry, Elk. Having read your OP more carefully, you are absolutely right to be angry! There's no justification in inducing your baby's birth for any reason that's unrelated to your or your baby's health or your personal wishes. I'm furious for you.

Well he told me on my last appointment at 39+ 2. Now on my last week at 40 weeks I am stressed as I need to find out on Monday what does the insurance plan cover of it's different doc or doc that he recommended. I would def prefer to know like few months in advanced and then I could change the doc. TBH I think he should have told me at the beginning of the year and I could decide for myself. I would understand if I go in labour earlier / had to be induced then he might be on leave but all the point of choosing doctor is that he can deliver your baby. I def don't want to be induced for the convenience of doc holidays. It's all scary as is and I hope Mother Nature knows best when it's ready.

Oh sorry, that's very odd. If he is on holiday he should be arranging holiday cover for all his patients. It's ridiculous to expect you to sort it out this late in the day!

In your case tbh I'd take the induction on 26th and save myself the hassle during the last week, but very unprofessional by the doc.
