Increased movement, should I worry?

Hi all,

4am, 38+5 and I'm wide awake and so uncomfortable because baby is moving so much (also randomly really gassy for some reason) Blush Confused

She's an active baby anyway but this is more movement than I'm used to; should I be worried? I know less or no movement is a bad sign but is an increase also something to worry about?

Xx

It's one of the things my midwife said to call about, so I'd suggest you call in and see what they think. I'm sure it's fine, but best to get it checked.

Callamia · 22/07/2017 04:31

If it feels weird to you, then do get it checked. I'm 38w too, and went in this morning for something I was concerned about that turned out to be entirely fine. Don't feel bad or like you're time-wasting - if you're at all worried, then just give the labour ward a call and ask for their advice.

Ok thank you for your replies, I'm going to text my midwife and see what she says; currently lying in bed wide awake from the movements and a little bit worried as (sorry if TMI) I've had a sudden increase in discharge but it isn't a show or my waters from what I can tell. Hopefully it's nothing but Ill see what my midwife says.

Thanks for responding Flowers

Hopefully it's just baby getting into a new position and getting comfy but definitely best to get checked over.

It's probably absolutely fine, but I always think best to get checked in these situations. DS used to go through patterns of quiet behaviour followed by a more intense few days and I went in several times for monitoring. I always felt a bit like I was wasting hospital's time but midwives always said so much better to check and be certain. I feel for you - I found tracking movements very stressful! Hopefully not too long to wait now.

Hi, ring delivery suite rather than texting your midwife, I turn my phone off when I'm not working and quite often turn it on to urgent messages about movement two days after they've been sent. Ring delivery suite directly and they'll advise you from there. I would expect that they will want to monitor you.

Hi OP, I'm 38+3 and felt a bit like this recently. I don't know if it's just cos baby is getting so big that when she moves around I feel it a LOT. I went to the hospital for a growth scan on Tuesday and they said everything looks fine to them. I mentioned that I'd been having increased discharge too so they checked my fluid level - all fine.
I think maybe we over analyse at this point as, being so pregnant, it's the complete focus of our lives! Do go in and get checked if you're worried though. Let us know how you are later x

Yes, get it checked. Phone the Labour ward. When this happened to me, it turned out to be the day before I went into Labour, so it could be baby getting ready.

AshesEmbersFlames · 22/07/2017 07:11

Any change in the pattern of movement needs to be checked out as it could be that the baby is in distress. Please phone your Labour ward for advice rather than texting your midwife.

It's probably absolutely fine but i always advise getting in touch with triage/delivery suite if any changes regardless if it's increased or reduced :)
Hope everything is okay! x
