Changing Hospitals

I am currently 31 weeks pregnant, and go to St. Georges hospital in Tooting. I have been so unhappy with the care provided so far, I would really like to swap hospitals (to Chelsea & Westminster), and continue my care there.

Does anyone know if switching hospitals is possible this late on? I technically live out of the catchment area for C&W, but absolutely hate going to St Georges.

Thank you in advance Smile

I'm not near you but I transferred from my local hospital to a midwife led centre (in another Trust area) at 32wks. I just rang the new place and they made me a booking appt. Not sure how much it will help if you aren't happy with care though as my antenatal and postnatal appts are still going to be with my local midwife team bot the team at the new hospital

You can change hospital whenever you like. I changed my hospital at 38 weeks last time to one in a different NHS trust (then ended up giving birth at the original hospital anyway due to different circumstances!).

This time round I plan to have my antenatal care at my closest hospital but give birth at one further away that has a MW led birth centre so will have to change late on again.

I changed hospitals at 41+2! I needed to be booked for induction so asked to be booked in at a hospital closer to where I would have better overnight childcare options, so mw made a call and I was booked in for 3 days later.

Hi, I know someone who changed from st Mary's to C&W at around 30 weeks due to moving, she called them and they advised her to fill in the self referral form online with the correct dates and they got in touch with her asap. I don't know the protocol if you are out of catchment I would recommend calling them.

I'm 33 weeks at c&w and I've been really impressed so far. In the 3rd trimester, there is a mix of GP and midwife appointments so I would match this up to where you are on your current schedule so you know what your first appointment at c&w would be: www.chelwest.nhs.uk/services/maternity-obstetrics/your-pregnancy/routine-antenatal-care

I mention the schedule because my GP also looks after some women booked into Tooting and she often states how different the two schedules are for appointments.

That's brilliant, thank you so much! Flowers
