I have just found out that I am pregnant (around 5w5d) and I feel like I have a million questions going through my head.

I'm really hoping some of you may be able to answer!

  1. does anyone know the bmi limits that prompt further care? I have been trying to lose weight, gained a bit on holiday and then unexpectedly fell pregnant without having lost it again! If I have a BMI of 27/28 am I likely to be referred for any 'extra' care for being overweight? Blush I am hoping to continue to follow slimming world loosely throughout my pregnancy if I can to try and keep a control on my weight gain.

  2. has anyone had the 10 week scan and harmony test package at the FMC? If so do you feel it was worth the £400? We are seeing family when I'll be around 11 weeks (we live 400 miles away from them) and so would like to see the little one on the scan and hear a heartbeat before we share the news with our parents so are considering this as an option for us.

Thanks so much in advance! This is all a bit overwhelming at the moment ... toddles off to find March 2018 thread

hi @lasuprise

I didn't want to read and run. No BMI of 27/28 is fine. Anything over 30 is considered obese.

Number 2 that sounds pricey. Most places charge £50-100 for a scan. What is the FMC? I would wait until you can have the NHS 12 week scan personally.

Congratulations :)

Do you want to do the Harmony test? If you just want a scan, I believe you can pay for just a scan. The NIPT (non-invasive prenatal testing, which is what Harmony is) is what bumps the price up. I paid for the SAFE test and a scan in London - I don't otherwise live in the U.K. but I was there for several weeks over the window of time when they do screening, so I did it there. I would have done it in my home country anyway and the price was the same. Anyway, I was really glad I did the NIPT. But it sounds like you're more interested in the scan? They are two separate things, so you should decide which one you want.

I always have my early scans at fmc. They are great. I have never had the harmony so can't comment on that so only pay for the scans themselves.

As for your bmi - it's fine. Similar to mine and I've never had extra care for that reason alone.

Congratulations!

Thanks so much for the replies, especially the reassurance re my BMI! Grin

I am interested in both the scan and the harmony test, so the FMC option seemed like a good choice- I think I need to do a bit more research really. As we are both quite nervous first time parents the Harmony test seems like money well spent to reassure us a bit, but we will do a bit of research over the next few weeks and decide Smile
