Been told baby will be big

Hi been to get measured yesterday Im 28 weeks. Baby is measuring over 3lbs already! My midwife says dont worry about it until 36weeks when they will do a scan and then talk through some options.
If baby carries on growing like this they reckon she'll be over 11lbs by my due date.
My last two were 9 and 10lbs but were normal births so I am expecting this one to be similar weight.
Just wondering though has anyone been told this and what was the options they offered you and the outcome please? I would like to have a natural birth again as I know I couldnt cope with recovery from a section.

I had to have another test for gestational diabetes, which turned out to be the case for me. I followed their diet strictly which was mainly cutting out bread and sugar. I had a planned c-section but he didn't end up being that big (just over 8lb). Sometimes the scans aren't accurate but in my case it definitely helped to cut out those two foods in the final weeks.

This happened to me with dc1. I was inducted and had an Emcs as baby mesured over 4.2 kilos. However baby only weighed 3.7 kilos when she was born.

I would just remember that dating scans, especially those at the end of the pregnancy are notoriously inaccurate.

I think all you can do is follow their advice but it's your choice at the end of the day if you want to go for a natural birth. It's something you will obviously think about over time.

I was advised my baby was going to be big a couple of weeks before the birth. When I asked how big and asked if we were talking a 10 pounder the midwife laughed at me. A couple of weeks later she was born by an emergency Caesarian at 11 pounds 10 ounces. It was a difficult birth with complications. She's fine and due to start secondary school in September.

Listen to their advice and make a decision nearer the time.

I was told my dc would be enormous at a scan at 36 weeks. Fortunately, he was born at 36 + 6 as he was 8lb 10oz then.. If he'd stayed in place for potentially another 5 weeks, he would have been huge.

I was measuring consistently big (between 80th and 90th centile) between 20 and 34 weeks. Went back this week for my 38 week midwife appointment and her growth has dropped right off. Went to hospital for a check up scan and she's 7lbs 2oz, meaning she might be about 8 when she's born. They told me they were thinking more like 11 a few weeks ago!

Oh, should have said, his birth was completely natural at home and really didn't even hurt that much.

Penhacked · 19/07/2017 07:21

I'd take it with a pinch of salt honestly. They said mine was a little one and she was a 9 pounder when she got here. If you have delivered a 10 pound baby already, really I would be giving yourself a chance to deliver. I did a water birth the first time and can honestly say it was much easier to deliver in water.

Have you had your blood sugar levels tested to rule out gestational diabetes?

MyOtherProfile · 19/07/2017 07:23

I've known so many people be told their baby is measuring big or small and not one turned out to be accurate.

No advice but am currently in same boat. I have regular growth scans anyway as high risk pregnancy as DS was born at 27 week weighing 2lb 3. At my scan at 28 weeks baby estimated at 3lb + and around 98th percentile. Nothing has been discussed with me as yet - I have another scan at 31 weeks so will see what is said then!

ladyyyglittersparkles · 19/07/2017 14:20

I was told to expect a 9lber
At 39+2 she was born weighing 7lb1

Thanks for you replies! Ive started sw again to see if it helps, with full support from my midwife and sw consultant.
I have been tested for GD but its normal. I think that I might be quite happy for them to induce me a bit early. I dont mind if it means I hopefully avoid a c-section.
