I've been booked in for a csection on Monday as my dd2 is breech, from experience did anyone know that baby had turnt? Where should I feel kicks etc? To be fair she's never been a kicker as such but more of a mover I can definitely feel a hard round lump under my left rib but it's not the same as it was say a few days ago, any advice welcome x

Generally women feel a period of a lot of movement rather than one large movement when baby turns.

They will do a scan before the section anyway, and if baby has turned they will probably send you home again!

Imnotacelebgetmeouttahere · 18/07/2017 08:03

I felt my DD turn - it was horrendous Blush < sorry!> but her turning also leaked out what was left of my waters so had EMCS at 35 weeks.

They will scan you when you go In to check babies position

dramalamma · 18/07/2017 08:03

I didn't feel mine - was very surprised when she had turned at the scan!

Cakescakescakes · 18/07/2017 08:05

Mine turned at 36 weeks and don't feel it

Cakescakescakes · 18/07/2017 08:05

Didn't

Imnotacelebgetmeouttahere · 18/07/2017 08:24

I should probably amend my post to say I had barely any waters before she turned so that was probably why it was so uncomfortable

user1480264544 · 18/07/2017 09:08

Ahh I see, I'm 39 weeks and she's a big baby, very long so they don't think she's likely to turn but I'm worrying she might lol I've got my self mentally prepared for Monday and would be really upset if it doesn't go ahead don't get me wrong as long as she comes out safely that's my main concern but the nerves are sinking in I've forgotten what having a head down baby feels like 🙊 Xx

Mine turned at 36 week and honest to God I thought she was going to burst out of me. Nearly cracked a few ribs doing it! Or so it felt. I had a c section anyway but I definitely felt it.

user1480264544 · 18/07/2017 09:25

I've had a few feelings like that so she might of gone! Do they let you go ahead with the csection anyway then? As I say I'm all prepared x

I felt dd turn. I'd gone in to see the consultant as she'd been breach on her last scan at 36weeks (dodgy blood test result meant they thought she might be low birth weight so extra scans), nurse palpated my stomach and confirmed she was still breach. Had to sit and wait for consultant to arrive from an emergency surgery so had a hot chocolate while I waited, felt her rummaging around a bit and then when I stood to go in to the consultant's room I felt her spin and where my bump had been full at the top she was now really low down. Consultant had a feel and scanned me quickly and confirmed she'd turned and her head was slightly engaged.

MamaHanji · 18/07/2017 09:55

Mine was an elective c-section for a combination of health problems, BUT none of them were so concerning that i couldn't have attempted a natural birth. But one of the biggest reasons for a c-section was my severe anxiety and depression, so I still had the c-section and I don't regret it at all! The section itself was calming and not terrifying like I expected.

The recovery is a bitch but I couldn't take anything stronger than paracetamol due to a heart problem. I know a lot of people say the recovery isn't too bad.

You can probably request to still have the section if you speak to your consultant.

Good luck. I've had a c section and a natural birth. Both are hard but with the right support, they will both be fine!

With my first he was breech and turned at 38 weeks overnight. Didn't feel a thing and he was quite big 9lb 6 at 39 weeks natural delivery. Child number 2 was head down at 37 weeks, induced at 39 +4 and discovered that she was breech so ended up with a emergency CS. Didn't feel her turn either although she was a tiddler at 7lb 12 Grin

Finola1step · 18/07/2017 11:37

Felt ds turn at 38 weeks. Oh yes, I felt it alright. Felt like a very sudden, severe contraction. Then all settled within 10 minutes.

Have they tried to turn your baby? I would speak to the NCT for advice. They are really helpful and will explain all the choices to you 0300 330 0700

Bear2014 · 18/07/2017 13:08

I would say if you're 39 weeks and it's a big baby, you would know about it if she had done a full 180. My DD was transverse at term so I had to have a CS. This time, I'm 36 weeks and baby went from transverse to head down a couple of weeks ago. I felt what I would describe as a period of 'thrashing around', quite vigorous movements, and then everything felt different the next day - more pressure down below and distinct kicks in the ribs. If you think you can feel the head in your ribs, I would say the head is in your ribs.

MaisieDotes · 18/07/2017 14:54

Two of mine were breech up until about 36 weeks, DC2 I did not feel turn, when I went to the midwife the following week I was brimming with questions about having to get the baby turned and she just said "oh no, it's fine, he's head down now." Felt nothing.

DC3 however. I was sitting one night when I began to feel huge pressure between my ribs and couldn't breathe properly. I remember hanging ove the edge of the sofa and calling DH and saying- "I honestly think my ribs are going to explode!" Obviously they didn't and I was totally fine about 5 or 10 minutes later (drama queen Blush )

DC2 was 8lbs at birth and DC3 was 9lb9oz.

It's so frustrating i just wish I could see this little monkey! lol I've got a big hard head shaped lump literally against my left rib.. but this could be a really boney bum.. or her head.. I keep getting some kind of limb poking out on the right side between my rib and my hip.. I just can't picture how she's sitting.. she moves a lot a lot of rolling and stretching but never kicks so it's hard! I've not really felt anything major I'm not being seen until Friday and op is meant to be Monday x

Yes, there was an almighty scrabble in bed one night. I thought she was trying to escape!

Flicketyflack · 18/07/2017 19:24

Yes I felt my son turn in the Xmas Eve eight weeks before he was born. I thought I was having braxton hicks and did a few yoga moves to help relieve it which actually helped him turn( worked this out after!) It went undetected and he was born breech vaginally in the March the following year!

I complained of feeling very tight up under my rib cage-midwife never picked it up-he had his head shoved up under my ribs and I then worked out after he was born that he had turned on the Xmas Eve.

I would not want to have a baby turned TBH after how it felt for me and anecdotally my Aunt lost her son 40 years ago after they turned her son and he died after the cord constricted around his neck.

Flicketyflack · 18/07/2017 19:27

Forgot to add he was born fine vaginally by a very experienced midwife and has had no further issues from being born breech, he is approaching ten now! The ward staff were disappointed to miss the birth as apparently breech vaginal deliveries are so rare now.

Ginlinessisnexttogodliness · 18/07/2017 22:31

@user1480264544 my daughter was breech at 39 weeks. At 39-+1 being scanned in theatre just before my c section she had turned. During the night I thought I had e,t her trying to turn, what a little star she is as she managed it, head down and fully engaged. Born via vaginal delivery later that night.

She was 9lbs 8oz too, so these things do happen!

harleysmammy · 18/07/2017 22:38

For me it kinda felt like one minute there was a head between my ribs, then my stomach went horizontal and then I got feet in the rib. Obviously it doesn't happen in minutes, I think when my son turned it was about a day. It didn't hurt really for me, maybe a little bit (not sarcasm) when he was across but nothing horrible. Just felt like a braxton hick x

user1480264544 · 19/07/2017 08:19

Thank you for this, I'm not sure I want her to turn it's giving me massive anxiety I've just got to terms with the fact I'm having a c section and now I'm stressing I won't .. does it sound like she could still be breech? With the head like feeling against my rib movements feels really low down and the odd limb in the right side rib poking through. This is my second but my first was head down and engaged for like 11 weeks an didn't budge.. until I went into labour where she decided to go back to back! I've forgotten what it all feels like xx
