My husband has come up with the name Stanley if we have a little boy (due last week so ready to burst!) which is a family name on his side.
What do fellow mumsnets think of it? I am wondering if it's too old fashioned? PLEASE HELP !

Its a family name for us too, I rather like it (and Stan as a shortening is quite funky)

I havent read any of the opinions, just your original post. We are also considering Stanley as a middle name for ds2 as is his paternal grandfathers name. I would just like to say that I think Stanley is just about to become a really cool name as the trend for former old man's names continues. I really like it, esp Stan for short. the only problem is that anyone from the older generation / all your old relatives / people that don't live in cities will go "oooh Stan, that is a horrible old mans name". They will be eating their words in a few years time, I feel, just depends whether you are brave / thick skinned enough to go for it in the meantime. Think we will chicken out a bit and go for it as a second name.

Have just read them all now and I can't believe two people think it is poncey! And Stan is great for a teenager! Maybe what they mean is "increasingly popular with the middle classes" but I don't think that is necessarily synonymous with poncey. Who wants their kids to sound like chavs anyway!

It was my FIL's name - but he hated it nd was always called by his middle name
