Blankets, sleeping bags and swaddles?

I am expecting DC1 in a month and I have all of the above, but when do people use them all? Have you found any better than the others? Are they all equally as effective? Cheers :)

DS, 3 weeks only really settles if swaddled, just using blanket, due to reflexes making legs jump about, but some babies don't like or need. Hope to move on to sleeping bag eventually, or just tucked in, which works now if he is well asleep

When my baby was born she was swaddled (in a large muslin) pretty much most of the time. I would strip her down to feed her and change herl, but she slept swaddled. For at least the first 4 weeks she slept for 3 hours, ate, slept for 3 hours, so on. We also used wrap/bag combos like this:

She also loved these because she was kinda swaddled but she could self soothe:

You may have a baby who loves being swaddled or hates it.

I think we went to sleeping bags at around 4 months old. We only use blankets in the pram/buggy. Never while sleeping.

Hope this helps!

We was swaddled for the first 2 weeks, then she kept fighting out of it so just tucked the blankets in. She wouldn't tolerate a sleeping bag until about a week ago, but it has been really warm in our room so she's just had a vest and a light sheet over her.
So she had been on a sleeping bag now since 12 weeks. Good that you have all in, you'll just have to try them and see what baby likes.

I used gro snugs until DD was big enough for gro bags. You can have their arms in and out but hers were always out as she didn't seem to like them in. Good to have the option though and try it out

Like Frizzy, I'm going to try the Gro Snug. It's a swaddle and sleeping bag in one so you can be flexible to what your baby prefers

I got some lovely newborn sleeping bags from jojo mama Bebe, lightweight too which was perfect for my summer baby.

My eldest (who's been thin from birth) didn't like swaddling just a thin blanket. My huge (nick named big rig/tick tock) youngest liked to be swaddled and kept warm/hot. He had silent reflux till he was 2-3yrs old, not sure if he like swaddling because it helped him. Trust your instincts, I always say add 1 more clothing layer than you have in (I.e their vest)
