Just curious as we are gathering ideas for a wish list. As FTP we have no idea!

A bootful of bags for life filled with their used but great condition. baby clothes, towels, sheets etc. And their old bugaboo. All been in use for both of my DDs and now being passed on elsewhere as we finish using them.

annlee3817 · 14/07/2017 21:47

Euan the dream sheep

annlee3817 · 14/07/2017 21:48

And aiden and anais muslins, they were big and great for swaddling. We now use them as a light summer cover for our two year old :)

PumpkinSpiceEverything · 14/07/2017 21:50

Clothes. DD1 was nearly a year old before we had to buy her anything.

dannydyerismydad · 14/07/2017 21:53

A massive tin of muffins.

Snacks for me and a no effort offering of hospitality to friends and family coming to meet our baby.

BillywigSting · 14/07/2017 21:54

About 200 nappies in various sizes.

We would definitely have run out at midnight had we not had those, we had no idea just how many nappies a new born goes through in a day (about eleventy billion).

A box for keeping all of the changing gear together that was filled with teethers, muslins, nappy cream etc. Infacol, gripe water and dummies too.

All stuff we already had bought ourselves (minus the still very useful box), just not nearly enough of it.

missyB1 · 14/07/2017 21:54

A lovely very soft fluffy fleece blanket, it was the best baby blanket ever and definitely his favourite!

doowapwap · 14/07/2017 21:56

I second Aden and anais muslins, they are lovely, especially the big ones which can also be used a light blankets or swaddles. They can be pricey but tk maxx often have A&A stuff in at amazing prices!!

Best gifts include the sleep/rocker tiny love chair, that was great.

Colouring in books for the older dc so they don't feel left out!!

Food CakeCake

Nice towels for baby and clothes in the next size up rather than newborn

A feeding cushion, it was used for 3 years before I had to chuck it (worked out as a great cushion for my back!!)

Kiwi32 · 14/07/2017 21:56

Giant muslins as previously mentioned. And a baby gym. That was a total lifesaver once DS was big enough (which didn't take as long as I thought it would!)

amousehaseatenmypaddlingpool · 14/07/2017 22:02

A big box of incontinence mats and a emergency blanket.

The incontinence mats saved my life every time we went out and the changing mat was a bit grim, or we'd had a poonami at someone else's house. Change baby on one, fold it all up, in the bin and forgotten. No faffing about wiping down dirty change tables with one hand whilst juggling a wriggly baby in the other. Also proved very handy for potty changing years later.

The emergency blankets are those silvery blankets you get at the end of a long run, Blacks sell them. Baby on knee, mobile phone in hand, both of you sit under the emergency blanket. Turn on your phones light and you get an instant crinkly sparkly sensory play experience, with the added bonus of being able to mumsnet at the same time. Win.

Cuddledry towel- brilliant as you don't get soaked getting them bathed
Sophie the giraffe - for when they start teething
Travel mugs - for when you want to want to actually finish a hot cup of tea and not spill it on newborns head!
Lanisoh cream- if you are planning to breastfeed
Tins of biscuits/muffins/chocolates- to eat on the go for quick energy

MrsTickles · 14/07/2017 22:17

Baby bouncer - Ours is the Fisher price woodland one. Dd loves it and babbles away at the plastic owl.

Jellybabie3 · 14/07/2017 22:18

Another one for adian and anais Muslins one of our best buys!

A stretchy wrap for carrying baby invaluable when baby needs snuggles but you need to get things done.

Lemaze toys or interactive soft books keep baby entertained for hours when they get a bit older.

blackcherries · 14/07/2017 22:21

thirding the massive A&A muslins!
Also car seat mirror (and car seat), sleep bras, meals for the freezer! Dressing gown with big pockets (you need to carry stuff around when you're holding baby) and drinking bottle, esp if breastfeeding.

NapQueen · 14/07/2017 22:23

Clicked on here to say A&A giant muslins!

Also the tiny love 3 in 1 napper was a perfevt daytime sleep place for the baby until he was about 8mo.

ILoveMyMonkey · 14/07/2017 22:23

One of those baby record books where you list the firsts and stick in photos etc. I only got 1 from an aunt and uncle (think they might be a bit of an old school idea) and it's been fab, I filled it in religiously and it's lovely to look back on. It would never have occurred to me to buy one for myself and most presents we received were clothes / toys / blankets etc.

Lunalovepud · 15/07/2017 10:16

In ear thermometer.

NameChange30 · 15/07/2017 11:57

Baby Bjorn Balance bouncer chair
Play mat / gym
Infant Stim Mobile (we put it above the changing table to distract/entertain DS while we change him)
Whoozit toy - he loves it
Soft books especially Jungly Tails
A teething ring you can put in the fridge
Clothes in size 6 months + (we got loads of 0-3 and 3-6)

NameChange30 · 15/07/2017 11:59

Oh and bibs. You can't have too many. Since DS started teething he's been getting through them fast!

OhOurBilly · 15/07/2017 17:05

Vouchers (frugi, funky giraffe, babies r us,) it's so much nicer to be able to shop online when you're bored with a tiny baby asleep on you!

6 foot charger lead.

Tuppence & crumble starsnug.

Weleda calendula gift set (we still buy the nappy cream and ds is 7 months)

Cj's BUTTer balm. Amazing, organic, all natural creams for babies delicate skin and they smell incredible.

10 terry towelling nappy squares. Use them for everything still.

Grosnug/grobag.

Bodum thermal cups.

Netflix subscription/box sets of DVDs.

Sheepskin liner for moses basket/bassinet. www.baababy.co.uk

Most of this stuffI bought myself but it's my favourite things from when he was a newborn. 😊😊

FrizzyNoodles · 15/07/2017 17:09

Milestone cards. They're lovely and DD will have the photo of herself with each card and they're back in the box saved for her.

PicaPauAmarelo · 15/07/2017 17:12

DH bought some swaddle wraps for our youngest. Not sure what made him but they were brilliant. I wish I'd had them for the others.

DeepInFrance · 15/07/2017 17:18

Two newborn gifts that were not for immediate use, but proved to be invaluable were:

  1. A hook-on high chair (this was 30 years ago before high chairs in restaurants were common).

  2. A hip carrier. Someone gave us a stroller, which I used once and completely hated. The hip carrier was so much handier getting on and off buses, through revolving doors, you name it. Also, lovely having her right up there next to me, and not down at knee level. Before that we relied on a Snuggli.
