Hello all, sorry if this thread exists already!

This is my first pregnancy, and I was wondering if any of you could post your indispensable purchases for new babies.

I have no idea what kind of things are musts and what won't actually end up used much in reality.

Could you let me know your star buys, life savers, cool time save products and absolute essentials?

Thanks!

I'm onto DC 3

My most used thing / piece of equipment was a vibrating Fisher Price bouncy chair

You can use them from birth , baby goes in, switch on the vibrations and they loved it for a nap .

Also easy to transport from room to room
So if I was upstairs doing housework baby was in that
Or if in the kitchen baby was in it whilst I was doing dinner

Any kind of nice vibrating baby chair suitable from birth will do.

Apart from that just all the usual essentials , we didn't have anything fancy

Plain Moses basket , can easily. BE transferred from room to room

Amazon prime. And try not to buy too many things ahead of time and buy as you go. Bit I definitely agree with some sort of device you can safely strap your baby into that will keep them comfy for short periods. We had a swing which I've used most days just while I have a shower. I did wish I'd gone for a bouncy chair instead because the swing is a bit too big and I feel like a good bouncer would have lasted longer.

I loved my little baby nightdresses for making nappy changing quicker at night. Marks and Spencer's does a 2 pack for a tenner. They tend to be labelled as baby bundlers and are really long with elastic at the bottom. It's devastating when you suddenly realise there are little toes peeking out of the bottom of them because your tiny baby is no longer that tiny though.

Muslins
Grobags once they were big enough

Both my babies hated the vibrating chair thingies

Nearly due my 2nd and I'm amazed at how little I'm prepping for stuff compared to first time around (ok partly because we HAVE everything from first time around but it's still in the loft & I'm not that bothered). Mainly because when you get home you really don't need a lot - bouncy/vibrating chair was a winner for us.
Moses basket
Muslin cloths
Nappies
Couple of blankets (as said above sleep bags for when a bit older were BRILLIANT up to 18months)
Sleepsuits/vests
Feeding equipment (unless breastfeeding - in which case nipple cream was handy!)

Anything else I wouldn't class as 'essential' - not even a bathtub as I didn't bath mine for the first week and even then if you have a big shallow sink (enough to get baby's bottom and you arm round her/him in) then that's fine.

Everything else you can buy as you go along. Initially baby eats & sleeps so as long as you have their bed sort and food sorted the essentials are done.

Thank you everyone this is brilliant!

I used a fabric sling quite a bit, but wished I'd got the one my friend used when I saw her with hers. It's called a Connecta if you're interested. Perfect balance between comfy fabric and easy clips. Gave me sling envy!

A comfortable dressing gown, great to slob about in when you're had little sleep but even better if you don't we're a top underneath you can cuddle newborn inside it (with just head sticking out) and the skin to skin calms them.

That's the only way DS would sleep for the first few weeks.

Heirhelp · 15/07/2017 22:36

Connecta slings are a type of buckle sling (they are currently not selling slings). Buckle slings are not recommended for very young babies.

Go to a sling library and you can hire a stretchy sling for a low price or even free.

Placemarking. First pregnancy here too, this is really useful. We've been buying bits for a few months, trying to spread out the cost a bit.

Big triangular cushion for resting your arm while nursing. DS was born in winter and someone bought me a snuggle wrap ( like a blanket with a hood) which was fab as, if he fell asleep in his pram, I could just unwrap him without waking him up when we got home.

Aden + Anais muslin blankets-just love them. Good for wiping up sick or swaddling etc. Lovely designs.

Angel care monitor-using one for the fourth time with #4

A decent changing bag

Lanisoh nipple cream and breastpads

Grobags

Sleepyhead! Best purchase ever. She even sleeps in her sleepyhead in her cot at night. And extra covers (for the vom obviously!)
