I ate blue cheese

I'm so worried. I ate a lot of blue cheese last night. I mistakenly thought my husband had found pasteurised cheese. I was wrong.
I've spoken to a midwife who just said keep an eye on foetal movement, which is a worry as it feels like that's not very preventative.

Has anyone else made a similar mistake who might be able to reassure me??

You will be fine, almost certainly.
The main risk is that you could get a tummy bug, which can happen with this kind of cheese. If that happens it could be a problem but thousands of people eat unpasteurised blue cheese without getting a tummy bug. The advice to avoid it is to completely eliminate a risk that was already small in the first place. If you feel well and you don't notice any changes in general then probably everything is fine.

How many times have you had listeria after eating blue cheese before? Honestly, the chances of it being a problem are vanishingly small. Try not to worry.

I ate all the cheese and my baby is bonny as h. All French babies don't die.

NerrSnerr · 14/07/2017 11:52

The risk is tiny. I'm not sure what you'd expect the midwife to do, the preventative thing to do would be no not eat unpasteurised cheese. I do agree with PP tough how often do you hear of listeria? It's so very rare.

I ate sushi, oysters and forbidden cheeses in both my pregnancies. Different countries have different rules and their babies are fine. Don't worry, honestly.

Thankyou guys.

Really relieved to hear that!!

I ate whatever I wanted while I was pregnant. It's all about risk of food Poisoning.

My logic was along the lines of I haven't had a bad experience with x food in my life so I'll classify it as safe.

dementedpixie · 14/07/2017 15:16

Although if you cooked it you could eat it with no worries at all

I'm jealous!!!
But seriously, don't worry! The risk is tiny tiny.
I've had it twice so d
far (am 20 weeks) and little bean is kicking away merrily.
And on the cheese note, did you know the nhs guidelines say stilton IS allowed?!! Hooray!
