Multiple trisomy16 losses

So just looki g to see if anyone has suffered anything similar and could offer advice or positive stories!

I'll start from beginning, 2002 I had a MC and again in 2005. 2009 I had my son and 2015 I had my 2nd son.
October 2016 I had a MMC at 10 weeks (baby stopped growing at 6) so had D&C and tissue was sent away for testing, came back as a trisomy16 loss, January 2017 I had a chemical pregnancy and then again in May I had another MMC at 10 weeks and another D&C which again came back as a trisomy16 loss

So after 1st MMC I was told that a trisomy 16 loss is very common and chances of it happening again were 1/16000, when the 2nd MMC came back as same thing I was told I'm now at risk for it happening again in future. Have been waiting since start June for an app coming through to see genetics specialist to see where to go from here.

Anyways I've just found out this week that I'm 4/5 weeks pregnant and I'm petrified the same thing will happen! Has anyone been through this and then had a successful pregnancy?

Have they done your and your partners karyotype looking for a balanced translocation involving chr16?

TeaAndPjs · 14/07/2017 10:50

No as I'm still waiting on an appointment coming through from genetics where they would go through everything! It was put through as urgent so thought I'd have heard before now!

Though my consultant did say if it was a problem like that then he would expect it to happen everyone whereas we've had a healthy child together tho he did admit that genetics could say diff when I seen them

Balanced translocation would affect 50% of pregnancies

Ah I See! Hopefully genetics t back to me soon and we can find out 1 way or another

To be honest, you do in your surviving child

Option 1 both random events - statistical likelihood low
Option 2 balanced translocation- quite possible given second event - 50% pregnancies affected
Option 3 some form of gonadal mosaicism causing extra chr16 - much less likely but possible. Risk rate to future pregnancies depends on %mosaic.

You need to see genetics

Re current pregnancy- ask for an early scan as if affected trisomy 16 is likely to stop developing quite early. Phone early pregnancy unit for advice.

My children were born before any of these happened so didnt ow of it was cause of age!

I'm waiting to see genetics, it's been put through as urgent but I've been waiting 6 weeks for an appointment, my consultant has already tried to hurry it to no avail. But my consultant has been great, he has me in for a scan next week through EPU and then I'm in again with him the following week for a scan and meeting.
