Hi I had an early miscarriage in Jan ... as was only 4 weeks they said it was a chemical pregnancy but I'm now pregnant again (just over 6 weeks) and am an emotional wreck with worry. Is this normal? 😳

I'm also not too sure when to tell my manager. We don't really know each other well as she's based in the USA but I'm meant to be flying over when I'm 11 weeks and I don't feel comfortable doing this as it's a long flight and will be well over 40 degrees out there. Any advice? Thanks in advance.

That's about a month away, and your tickets will be booked soon if not already so you're going to have to tell your manager soon if you don't want to go.

However at 11 weeks, not really a problem to fly and if it's work, you're not going to be outside in the heat are you?

Flights haven't been booked yet. Will be inside the office a lot but I've been told by colleagues here that the heat in Dallas over August is quite unbearable. Also I think I'm just nervous about flying in the first trimester especially such a long flight.

There's no risks to flying at 11 weeks, aside from if you are still feeling tired/nauseous on a long flight. I'd definitely tell you employer before you fly though.

As for the nerves, it's very common, the first trimester is a total head screw. Just take each day as it comes.

Agree with it being a total head screw 😃 Did not realise it would be this emotional and worrying. Think will bite the bullet and tell my manager sooner so I can delay the trip til September. Am also worried about redundancy at my work so I don't think that's helping me.

Hi, as jelly said, no danger in flying, I flew to Japan & back at 10 and 12 weeks. I would say, delaying until September might not be the best idea (I presume you meant you still doing the trip then). I'm 5 months now and, while my bump is quite small, I do get very fidgety and find sitting for a long time difficult. I would find a long hall flight more uncomfortable than I did 2 months ago.

Hi @tmc14! congratulations on your pregnancy. I also had a chemical pregnancy at around 4 weeks back in March. I'm now 14 weeks pregnant. Try to think of this as a whole new pregnancy and stay positive!

As others have said, flying is fine in the early stages, although you might want to tell your manager about the pregnancy just in case of sickness.

Good luck!

I think I've been a bit scared to tell my manager as I've only spoken to her about 3 times since she became my manager in Dec. They've also just made someone redundant who was on Mat leave 🙈

I have relatives in Texas. Yes it'll be hot but you really won't spend too much time out in it. You'll go from air con office to air con car to air con restaurant/hotel etc.

It'd be a teenie bit early but id tell my boss just so they're aware.

Thanks all. Think it's just the worry kicking in and I know it will be an intense week. Also I'm not used to travelling alone. Having an early scan on Saturday and my manager is away for a week so will tell her when she's back if all is well so far. I would've told my old manager immediately as have a very good relationship with her but have none with my new one.

Also congratulations to everyone 😊
