Oh my lord to quote a Jonny cash song 'it burns, burns, burns, my throat of fire 🔥 '

I eat small meals, non fatty food and drink milk but come bedtime it's like my throat is set alight!

Anybody else? And any good tips to ease the fire 🔥?

Thanks xx

Gaviscon Gaviscon Gaviscon. I was swigging it from the bottle at the end. The peppermint flavour was the least worst I found. The relief is immense.

Prop yourself up on a couple of pillows in bed to try and help the reflux?

It's shit though.

Ginlinessisnexttogodliness · 13/07/2017 00:44

I'm burning up as I type, third baby in a row that's done this to me.
I cannot live without prescription strength ranitidine or occasional omprezole (think that might be incorrect spelling)
Need also to constantly suck boiled sweets.
Cannot stomach gaviscon it is like milk within glue in and I just throw up.

Really miserable

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 13/07/2017 00:44

I'm going to call Dr's in morning to see if I can go back on Omneprazole. I have acid reflux issues even when not pregnant. I started on them again 19 weeks into my first pregnancy.

I've managed to get to 30 weeks this time. But I've got to the stage where I have acid in my throat before I've even eaten, let alone before!! And I can't remember the last time I slept without being propped up!!

Milk can aggravate indigestion, maybe give that up for a bit and see if it helps? Bread can also aggravate it.

ladynaomi · 13/07/2017 09:22

Omneprazole.

It's a life saver. Get to your doc. It's really dangerous if left untreated it can permanently damage your throat.

dippypanda · 13/07/2017 09:27

I'm managing on Rennies at the moment, I get the burn if I don't eat as well Confused definitely agree with above pp about going to Drs to get something stronger.

I know they say that fatty and spicy foods cause heartburn, but for me it's definitely made worse by sugar and carby stuff.

I was following a low carb diet before pregnancy and have mostly been sticking to it, but more relaxed with a lot more fruit and veg, and I find that my heartburn is way better this time than with my first two.
I have on many occasions indulged in biscuits, chocolate, bread, sweets etc and every time the heartburn gets a whole lot worse and I have a horrible night with it.

I eat a lot of fatty stuff - cream, cheese, full fat yoghurt (no sugar) and if anything it helps. I realise this probably sounds bonkers but I'm convinced it works for me at least.

SaS2014 · 13/07/2017 10:12

Omeprazole is the only way I've coped. 20mg twice a day. It's been a god send. And if I miss one boy do i know about it.
Has to be prescribed by gp generally. Tho you can buy low dose over the counter in pharmacy but it's only ever 10mg and 7 capsules and it's not cheap.

arbrighton · 13/07/2017 11:45

I got by with a lot of Rennie , no spicy food, no orange juice, not eating too late.

Gaviscon just made me gag

Lemondrop99 · 13/07/2017 11:47

Yep, go to the GP and get Omaprazole. Safe to take in pregnancy and really works.

3luckystars · 13/07/2017 11:48

TEA!

That was the culprit for me anyway.

3luckystars · 13/07/2017 11:48

(Give up the tea)

londonfeather · 13/07/2017 11:49

I've been chewing through a sheet of rennies a day pretty much from the start.

Most nights I have two before bed then wake up about 3am and have to have two more.

Gothbaby · 13/07/2017 12:29

Liquid Gaviscon helped at first but mine got so bad I was vomming bile in the night! Had to get pills from the doc. Realised what foods set it off worst, sat up with pillows to sleep helped and ate ice lollies xxx

Callmecordelia · 13/07/2017 12:31

Omeprazole. Get it. I was fobbed off by my midwife saying there was nothing that could be done - it was only when I hobbled into the gps surgery having fucked up my back and hip through trying to sleep in a raised position that it was taken seriously.

TreasureInMyTummy · 13/07/2017 13:16

Thanks for all the tips everyone and glad I'm not the only one! I'll try some Rennies. I'll see about propped up pillows but I have a slipped disc and sciatica so need to keep my back as straight as possible.

Doctors and the om-thing sounds promising thanks everyone!! Xx

I almost lived on gaviscon and steamed veg. No dairy, no sugar, no fat - was just about bearable.
