Steralising bottles

Hello,

This is probably a very silly question.

I'm planning on breastfeeding but in case there's any issues I've bought some ready made formula milk and some bottles. However they obviously need to steralized but can I do that in advance and pack them in my hospital bag or will they be able to sterilise them at the birthing cenre

Thank you

I used these in hosp as they were already sterile and ready to go

I'm nout sure about hospitals sterilizing but I'm sure they have facilities to do so, maybe check up in advance if you're worried? Hopefully you won't need any of it!

The hospital should have a milk kitchen on the maternity ward with a microwave and sterilizing bags.
I planned on BF so didn't take any kind of bottles or anything like that. Didn't even think about it stupidly. I did have to give DS some formula in the first week for various reasons and luckily they had everything at the hospital and showed me how to do it all.
Went onto EBF and still am now at 9months.

You can call ahead and check that they do have a milk kitchen if you are worried and ask them what you should bring. In the first few days it was syringe and cup rather than bottle but everyone is different so good to be prepared!

Congrats and hope all goes well with delivery and BF Flowers

I second the starter pack, that's what i used, no worry, super easy. My hospital did do sterilizing though if needed

Personally i think if you are planning to bf then there's no need to take formula to the maternity unit. If there is any issues and you arnt able to bf straight away then the maternity unit should have some formula.

It's not a bad idea to have some at home just in case though.

Bottles will only stay sterile for 24 hours. But the hospital should have something for you to be able to use to sterilise your bottles.

Most hospitals provide all milk and bottles for formula fed babies don't they? You don't need to take anything with you. Check with your midwife but it's definitely the case in our local hospital that they provide ready made pre sterilised bottles for all ff babies.

Most hospitals won't provide formula etc for babies that are planned to be FF from the start but will provide it in circumstances where it's unexpected but needed.

Most hospitals don't provide milk and bottles unless its needed medically.
