So I got for myself:
Night dress to give birth in
Pajamas ( black)
Sanitary maternity pads
Breast pads
Bottom spray
Slippers
Maternity bra, they seem to be super thick not sure I can wear them in this heat

Then obvious personal stuff like shampoo/ tooth brush / make up.
Phone and charger,
Maternity notes, anything obvious that I am missing here? Or maybe something else you found particularly useful?

Snacks I hope I ll get whatever I have on a day in a fridge.

Big pants
Water bottle with built in straw
Towel (not supplied for post natal showers where I was)
Baby clothes, nappies.

Hobbitch · 09/07/2017 02:05

If you're planning to breastfeed: Lansinoh.
Outfit for going home.
For the baby: a light blanket, cotton wool or wipes, a hat, muslins, mitts, babygros and vests, a cardigan or light jacket...

Creatureofthenight · 09/07/2017 06:13

Oh yes I forgot to ask ... what is bottom spray?!

Cagliostro · 09/07/2017 06:19

I'm going to be getting a power pack for my phone in case I can't plug in my charger!

I think last time (youngest is nearly 8) I had lucozade tablets during the birth.

Having read the postnatal care campaign thread I will be taking lots of food with me. Cereal bars etc. Also I might take paracetamol as it was impossible to get painkillers outside specified meds rounds.

Stuff with fibre in so it's easier to go after the birth :o

A pillow, normal one, nursing or a big v shaped one. Hospital pillows are crap.

DoubleHelix79 · 09/07/2017 06:28

Snacks!! Lots of snacks!

goldielock · 09/07/2017 06:31

Bottom spray Shock?!?

DuggeeHugs · 09/07/2017 07:45

Change for the car park/drinks machine/snack machine

fruityb · 09/07/2017 07:49

Snacks! I was starving in hospital lol. Loads of pairs of big knickers. Loads of pads - the hospital actually kept me topped up with those but still handy to have your own.

A thin dressing gown - I got one from mothercare that was maternity but I still wear it now.

I had magicool as I sweated like I've never sweated before the day I had my son!

GinIsIn · 09/07/2017 07:53

WTF is bottom spray??!

Hair ties
Pillow
Towel
Drinking straws
Ear plugs and eye mask
In case you have to be on the ward.

AddALemon · 09/07/2017 07:56

I think a bottom spray is this....

www.boots.com/metanium-everyday-spray-60ml-10183102

Get the cream op if it is, my friend bought this and its too watery to be a good barrier cream

OhWifey · 09/07/2017 07:57

Flannel. Didn't get one in hospital and I really struggled to scrub off the meconium I had been kindly gifted.

GinIsIn · 09/07/2017 08:00

Add But OP lists a "bottom spray" as 'things I've got for myself'.... Confused

QuestionARhino · 09/07/2017 08:05

Bottom spray is usually a witch hazel/tea tree spray used to provide instant soothing/cooling relief. Fairly new thing to the market, big in America and making its way over I think. This is one such spray;

doodlejump1980 · 09/07/2017 08:19

Strepsils/ throat sweeties. The gas and air made my throat really dry and sore. Good luck!

savagehk · 09/07/2017 08:26

Earth mama angel baby "bottom spray" was absolutely fantastic first time around - episiotomy/stitches, it was so soothing.
Second time it was still nice but luckily I didn't need it as much!
Think "bottom" is the acceptable term from the states for general lady bits.

FenellaMaxwellsPony

Oh Blush didn't notice that! Ignore me then, I too have no idea what a bottom spray is.... Grin

fruityb · 09/07/2017 11:57

Oh lip balm - someone mentioned dry throats from the gas and air and I had really chapped lips afterwards. Would also suggest big stretchy pyjama bottoms in case of CS

Elkalv · 09/07/2017 12:51

Hi yes bottom spray is this one I got

For outfit to go home is maternity jeans a good idea? Or will be too hard and Better take a dress?

OP posts:
fruityb · 09/07/2017 13:06

I wore a dress and leggings - didn't wear jeans for a week or two as I had a section. I'd say take something loose to wear

bluechameleon · 09/07/2017 13:51

I'd suggest soft clothes in case you have a section. Over the bump leggings are good for going over the scar.

NapQueen · 09/07/2017 13:53

Leggings and a tunic for me for coming home. Pack a second nightdress incase you end up with a catheter or csec.

Carrier bag to shove birth clothes in once you are done with them.

arbrighton · 09/07/2017 14:23

I came home in my maternity shorts (not C section)

But it was 2 weeks ago and still hot and I still haven't quite shrunk back into regular stuff.

I wore nighties rather than PJs while I stayed in hospital

And I must have been lucky as I could get paracetamol etc at any point if I buzzed- bar shift changeover time anyway
