Yup, return it. Definitely not done anymore.

I had an airwrap one. Not pretty but made DD feel more secure and closed in.

GinIsIn · 08/07/2017 16:03

There will be lots of things you buy that are wrong or you don't use. There really isn't any point getting worked up about it.

OhWifey · 08/07/2017 16:04

They really shouldn't be sold anymore but they're part of the whole nursery necessity sales pitch for retailers. As a PP has said, when baby gets old enough to be concerned about head bumps and arms through bars, then an Airwrap is ideal.

We used one and my dd was fine. As long as you tie it tight I think it'll be fine.

Well that's ok then. Doesn't matter if other children haven't been fine.

I never used a seat belt, or air bags as a child and i'm fine. Who are all these idiots saying we need car seats and restraints.

NC12345 · 08/07/2017 16:14

People die in a car crash so we'll all stop driving shall we?

I'm not speaking on behalf of the population just my experiences!

NotBanksy · 08/07/2017 16:19

I ended up using the cot bumper I got as a cot 'skirt' so I could hide things under the cot.
We brought one of the breathable bumpers. Not pretty looking, but they stopped DD getting her arms caught in the bars.

MsPassepartout · 08/07/2017 16:24

We had a crib bumper (not the breathable sort) that was tied on correctly when DS1 was a newborn. That didn't stop him from shuffling over to it and trying to bury his face in it. Luckily I went to investigate the odd noises he was making before anything serious happened. Bumper was removed immediately.

The crib bumper we had came as part of a set of nursery stuff. I hadn't heard of any safety warnings about them before the above incident with DS1.

MozzchopsThirty · 08/07/2017 16:25

SIDS advice is nothing in the cot with your baby
No cot bumpers, no teddies etc
Just cotton sheets & blankets

sweetbabboo · 08/07/2017 16:30

What I don't understand about cot bumpers is why they are still being sold? Do they have any warnings re the SIDs advice? I remember having arguments with my mum about cot bumpers when my DS was born. She couldn't understand why I wouldn't buy one for his crib, me and my brother both had them and if they were so dangerous why were they still being sold. I stuck firm, DS never had a bumper but I still have no answer as to why they are being sold.
(I held my tongue in regards to what me and my brother had or did. I also sat in the back of a converted Vauxhall Chevan/Chevette with no seat belts or indeed seats, just carpet. I won't be letting DS do that either! )

bluechameleon · 08/07/2017 17:44

The danger isn't just about getting stuck in them, it's also about the air not circulating as well leading to a higher risk of SIDS. I'd return it.

Brummiegirl15 · 08/07/2017 18:41

Under the safe sleeping guidelines from the lullaby trust cot bumpers are an absolute no no. Both from a strangulation risk and reducing the air flow within the cot. A baby should be foot to foot in the cot, with either a sleeping bag or a cellular blanket tucked in. That's it, no comfort blankets, toys, cot bumpers.

As for those who say "my baby was fine" - my sister is 9 Yrs younger than me and I remember her being in a carrycot, and the carrycot just having a seatbelt round it in the car (because it was legal back then!) and she "was fine". Would anyone do that now? Of course not!
We know better.
