Measuring small at 33 weeks, should I be worried?

Saw my midwife today and she is worried about the baby's size.
At 27 weeks the fundal height measurement was 28, now 6 weeks later at 33 weeks it is only 29 (measured by the same MW).
She offered me to have a growth scan next week or to wait and see her in 2 weeks and if no real change then to have the scan then.
My DS was a big baby, over 9 lb, and I was always about right size for dates which prob made her anxious. She did say it might rule out a home birth if the baby is too small...
Have now talked to DH and he wants to go for the scan asap.
I know these measurements are not always v accurate but this does seem a bit worrying.
Can anyone offer any advice?
TIA

I would go to scan and make sure baby is fine. Obviously we all worry but its always worth knowing if there is problem.Agree those measurements are not always accurate, so baby may be healthy and happy

Thanks diva.
Has anyone had a similar experience?
Its not really the measurement today which worried me, its the apparent lack of growth.

Should prob just book a scan, just hate hospitals and prefer to steer well clear if at all possible....

I've heard they're thinking about phasing out fundal measurements b/cos they're so inaccurate. My best mate suddenly 'stopped' growing at about 32 weeks, was refered for growth scan, panic-ed into induction at 40weeks (with resulting complications) ... for a bog-standard 7 lb baby!!
I measured small for dates throughout for dd who was also bog standard weight.(I was always dead on for dates with ds)
If I was you, I'd prob have the growth scan - (you'll only worry otherwise!) but get the sonographer to explain how accurate (or not!) they can be.
There are loads of old threads on this if you search ... but I'm crap at searching!

If there is a growth slow down it is usually the abdominal circumference. The dr/mw should then check the amniotic fluid and also the blood flow to the placenta. I am preg with twins and one has started to slow down and I am being scanned every 2 weeks. A friends daughter was told the head measurement at 30wks had shrunk sending her into utter panic as he said the baby would be severley retarded. I asked my ob who said that very unusual as the first measurement to be inconsistent in the case of a growth problem is the abdominal circumference. This Ob told me where to send friend's daughter and Proff there said nothing wrong.

I would go for next scan and ask about the other measurements and also the dopplers, amniotic fluid. It's good they are keeping an eye on you. Good luck.

hi just talked to friend, she says her cousine had 2 dc, and both were measured small and she was under check up untill give birth and babies were all fine, normal size. so please dont get too paniced.
i think it happens often. good luck.

I wouldn't worry. I measured small twice, once at around 33 and once at around 37. Got scanned both times and baby was fine and had grown. dd was small but perfectly healthy.

I measured very small for dates with both of my pregnancies and think these measurements can be inaccurate. Both times I had scans as there were concerns about small babies and both were absolutely normal size in utero and when born (7lbs 4 then 8lbs 3). I wouldn't worry but if a scan is being offered and might reassure I'd probably do it.

Thanks for all the good advice everyone. Feel better today and will get a scan booked in next week.
