I'm so clumsy and at 20 weeks have had anti d for a fall and a knock already. This morning have bumped my tummy again but I feel like people must have this day to day knocks and bumps all the time and I'm just being over the top.

If I continue like this I'll be having a jab every other week which seems ridiculous. Do you tend to ignore every day knocks? On this occasion I was carrying a wooden box and walked into the door frame so it pushed into my tummy. I guess it was not much more worse than being palpated just a shock as I wasn't expecting it.

Trying to be chilled out and ignore as I know if I phone up for advice they'll cover their backs and tell me to go and get jab (which I understand them having to do). Also this is third baby and I don't plan on having any more

I am! And was told by the hospital the anti-D jab covers you for 6 weeks (had some spotting at 14 weeks). So providing you had your last one recently you should be fine. Otherwise probably best to ring and be safe Smile

I don't know if this is different for me as it's my first pregnancy, but I was told to come in for a bleed (and not from cutting my finger chopping vegetables either) - and then they'd assess whether the bleed was heavy enough that an extra jab would be necessary. Bumps and falls were never mentioned to me, so I haven't been worrying about that at all. But if you've been told to do that, I'd follow your midwife/doctor's instructions - from what I've read, it's so manageable, so it seems to make perfect sense to make extra sure you won't be sensitised.

I am. I had the anti d injection. That was it. I wasn't told to worry about anything else like bumping myself (not that I did).
I was just told that if my baby was positive I would need another injection. But if the baby was negative then I wouldn't.
That was it.

I am too. But as PP, I wasn't told anything about bumps and only had the jabs at the specified times. I was spotting early pregnancy from 6 weeks through to 12 weeks and they still didn't jab me.
As a secondary point, make sure you get the anti d before leaving hospital after you've had bubba. They tried discharging me without giving it me. I had to ask, then they said "oh, do you need it, I didn't see that in your notes!" They reread the notes and then went off to get me it pronto!

I've had 2 children and only ever had the injections at specified times. No one ever told me about reporting knocks or bumps. I bumped into everything as suddenly had a belly that hadn't been that big before. Both babies fine. First was negative also, second baby positive so needed anti D again. I wouldn't worry too much about everyday knocks. Baby is well protected with all that water around it. Enjoy your bump & baby when it comes.

Barrytheunicorn · 07/07/2017 09:23

I was huge with dd 1 im pretty short so I just grew out and kept misjudging how big my bump was and hitting it.

I was told it's needed for any significant bump, bump that leaves a bruise or bleed.
Towards the end of my pregnancy when I was huge and off balance I did have to have a few injections for falls bumps bleeds.

It's probably best to phone the maternity unit and ask if they think it's needed, then next time you see your midwife ask her when you should need anti d because from the few answers on here it seems like it does vary from midwife to midwife.

I am & pregnant with baby no2. They only told me to come in if a substantial knock or I'm bleeding, otherwise just routine. First child rh neg & opted to get it more for protection for the second. I'm a groomer & always lifting dog's, getting belly pressed & as others have said it's well cushioned in there unless you have some other medical issue. My toddler is also clambering all over me & I don't worry, unless I really got a kick! All my family are rh neg & carried more than one child without incident.

GingerHanna · 07/07/2017 20:17

Watching with interest as I have just found out I'm negative (21 weeks today) and have been told to come back in at 27 weeks for more tests. Nothing to do or not in the meantime...

Odd thing is my bloody type is A+ but that's apparently because my RhC is positive but Rhc is negative which classes me as negative. Colour me confused!

harleysmammy · 07/07/2017 22:51

I had 16 anti d jabs by the time my son was born at 39 weeks. I was told anything hard enough to make you say "oh shit", is enough to make you go to the doctors x

seven201 · 08/07/2017 08:38

My daughter is one now but I was told to get the jabs if I got knocked. How strange that there is such different advice! Maybe Check what the NICE guidelines are op.

seven201 · 08/07/2017 08:39

16! Wow you must be clumsy Wink

n0rtherrn · 08/07/2017 08:45

I had a serious fall in my last pregnancy but because I didn't land on my bump I didn't need a jab.

I don't think they mean go in for small knocks and bumps, I walk into door frames and bump into things on a daily basis and it's never occurred to me to call hospital.

I'm pretty sure they are more concerned about substantial bumps and bangs like if you fell down the stairs, had a car crash, tripped or fell straight onto your bump from a height.
The types of bumps that could have caused an internal bleed.

If you have had any vagina bleeding is another reason to require a jab.

Bluerose27 · 08/07/2017 08:51

I'm Rh neg but so is my husband so I don't need injections. Does your partner know his blood type? You might not need anti D at all.
I know that's not helpful right now but it might take the pressure off as your pregnancy progresses.

ZigAZigAhh · 08/07/2017 08:59

I'm pregnant with DC2 and Rh negative and asked my midwife the other day when I needed to worry about bumping my bump. As another poster has said, the injection will apparently cover you for about 6 weeks and it is only significant knocks you will need to be concerned about (but obviously ring the maternity unit if you're not sure and they will be able to advise).

I mentioned to my midwife that I had a very big strong wriggly toddler and had been worried about a kick to my stomach, and she said it would have to be a very forceful painful kick to require an injection. Everyday knocks and bumps are fine (which is good because I am the clumsiest person alive). Obviously it's always best to call and check though.
