As the title says!

I'm 36+2 and midwife says I'm fully engaged and baby has had a growth spurt and is a good size so she could come any day now!

For those who have kids, how long was it for you from being told that the baby was engaged to you going into labour? I'm curious as I'm eager to meet her so hoping I'll go into labour sooner rather than later! Xx

They kept telling me that from 36 weeks with ds1 who was born at 42+1.
I don't think ds2 or ds3 fully engaged before labour.

7 weeks. Fully engaged at 35 weeks. Sweep at 38 weeks and 39 weeks, I was walking around 2cm dilated for 4 weeks.

DD came at 40+14 the morning before planned induction.

I was also told ' I won't be seeing you again without a baby!' From 35 weeks.

My midwife apologied at every appointment.

I wasn't fully engaged when I was induced at 39 weeks. I apparently "wasn't even close" at midnight when they checked. Baby was born at 5:38am. The midwife that started my induction the day before was flabbergasted when she came on the day shift 😂

I was fully engaged from 36 weeks, with midwife saying baby would arrive any day now... waters broke day before due date, ds arrived 2 days later after being induced 😂

My friend's baby engaged then disengaged Hmm Sorry, but I wouldn't bank on an early labour just yet.

Cakescakescakes · 05/07/2017 09:14

Yeah fully engaged both times at 35 weeks then had to be induced both times at 40+10.

I was told at 36weeks that baby was 3/4 engaged so thought I had ages, 37weeks 5days DS was born

Not had the baby yet but was engaged from about wk 32 onwards then moved out just after my wk40 appointment.

Not impressed!!

Thanks for all your replies, sounds like I've still got a good wait to go before I meet her based on all of your experiences!

I'll still hope for an earlier rather than later arrival though...! Smile

I know it's uncomfortable and hard to wait when you're exciting, but it is good for them to cook for longer. A 40 weeker will generally be chubbier, less likely to develop complications and be a better feeder than a 36 weeker. So if it does take a while that's a good thing really!

kel1234 · 05/07/2017 09:52

Sorry I have no idea. I was never fully engaged, as he or she wasn't fully head down. Hence no waters breaking, 4 days of slow early labour, a sweep, then off to the birth centre that night.

mistermagpie · 05/07/2017 10:59

I wasn't fully engaged either time and both my sons came before their due date (38+3 and 39 weeks exactly). I know I wasn't engaged with both as with DS1 I had a midwife appointment the day before and with DS2 I went into labour while I was in hospital.

I don't think being engaged is particularly a sign of anything I'm afraid.
