I don't have trouble getting to sleep, but then for the last few weeks have been waking every night around 3/4/5am then just lying there, feeling exhausted but wide awake. I sometimes manage to doze a bit, but fitfully, and with very vivid (sometimes scary) dreams.

I'm just getting towards the end of second trimester but bump not v big so am not too uncomfortable, so not sure what it is waking me up. Subconscious anxiety about baby arriving? Hormonal?

Does anyone else get this? Any tips for managing it?

I have this most nights now. 32 weeks now but started a while ago. Usually wake between 3 -4am and stay awake till 6ish I then may doze off.
Sometimes I'm uncomfortable with back or hip pain but sometimes no reason at all.
Sorry I don't have any tips, I usually get up for awhile and then go back to bed. I seem to get back to sleep faster that way.

khaleesitakesthethrone · 05/07/2017 09:31

I have had this also on and off all pregnancy. It was at it's worse in early third trimester however at 39 weeks now i have broken sleep with hours lying awake every night.

I have no advice, just wanted you to know your not alone! X

SaneAsABoxOfFrogs · 05/07/2017 09:34

Another one suffering here. I either can't sleep until gone 2, or a wake up at 3 and finally sleep about 6, an hour before my toddler wakes up! If one more person tells me I should get as much sleep as I can now before the baby comes...

lilyborderterrier · 05/07/2017 11:10

Snap same here, I'm 32 weeks and go to sleep about 10.30pm, if I'm lucky I'll get a few hours sleep until I wake up uncomfortable and needing a wee every 10 minutes ( it feels like)then I'm awake for hours watching the sun come up. I might fall asleep again for a bit but I'm actually getting used to it. I remember it from when I had my first baby 5 years ago. I don't feel exhausted but I do miss sleep. ( I'm finishing for maternity leave to rest up as I'm looking like I'll have an early baby so want to spend time with my daughter and relax.

Ugh, sorry to hear you're all suffering, but thanks for the messages of support. It's horrible, isn't it? I've been useless at work this week!

Have just signed up for a pregnancy yoga class and am hoping that will help a bit... I will let you know if I come up with any wonder-cures!

Xx

Feeling the same. 26+3 and starting to get uncomfortable over last week or so. Bump is very, very active too! Usually can fall asleep ok, but can be up half a dozen times throughout the night trying to get comfortable. I've bought two different 'pregnancy/support' pillows and they do help, but I've found that sleeping sitting up a little bit is comfier for me. Hope you are able to get some rest.

Madonna9 · 05/07/2017 15:16

I couldn't sleep during the third trimester, I'd wake up every night whilst I was so tired. Apparantly nature is preparing you for waking up every night several times ;-)

BringMeTea123 · 05/07/2017 15:33

Hi LadyoftheLake123

Although you say bump isn't very big, have you got one of those pregnancy pillows? I got one when I was about 16 weeks (small size 6 frame, so bump very obvious and big straight away). They really help just to rest on and you can flip your leg over it etc. Was so comfy!

Are you on maternity leave? You could always get up for an hour or so (mad as this sounds) maybe just read (tv might be too stimulating) but it might be worth a try and then going back to bed again. I don't think it does any favours when you are laying in bed staring at the ceiling. Definitely doesn't help.
Then make up your sleep in the afternoon. I also did this, about 2pm I'd go back to bed for a couple of hours as I couldn't physically stay awake. The odd day id still be asleep when my partner got home at 5.30 ooops lol.

Sorry that's all I can offer you. I think it's something that we just have to go through. (My mum says it's practice for when the baby comes) old wives tales haha think it was supposed to make me feel better lol x

LadyoftheLake123 · 05/07/2017 16:37

Thanks for this and agree lying staring at the ceiling is not helpful! Last night I was up and down the stairs going to loo, making myself a milky drink etc, then tried sleeping in living room and spare room (thought change of scene might help?!) before getting utterly frustrated and bursting into tears - waking DH at 3.30am! (Sounds like I do need a bit of toughening up before baby arrives eh!)

I'm 27 weeks tomorrow so not going on mat leave until mid/late Sept (sad! afternoon naps sound soooo good) but will look into the pregnancy pillows - thanks. I tend to sleep a bit better if I've had a hot bath before bed, too, so might try and make that more of a regular occurrence...

Hope you all manage to get some rest too!

Definitely look in to the pillow. Think it was dream genie? So comfy! And like you say a bath etc may help.

Only 13 weeks left! You're getting there. When is baby due? Sounds around my sons birthday!

GMtoBe · 05/07/2017 16:44

I'm in exactly the same situation! Literally no reason for me to be waking up but I still do every night. I suppose it's good to know that we aren't alone :)

LadyoftheLake123 · 05/07/2017 17:20

Yes not too long! EDD is 11 Oct (which actually may make me 26 weeks still... keep getting confused about how to calculate) but I'm having a c section at 39 weeks so he'll be here by 1st week of Oct at the latest - yikes! When is your son's bday?

Of course will all be worth it when the lovely bubbas arrive, but the things we all have to put up with, eh?

I'm only 15 weeks and hoping it doesn't last. Last night I slept 9-11.30 then pinged awake till 2.30. Got about 2 x 40 minutes after that and was at best dozing from 4.30. It's grim and makes me feel really sick all day. Never had this last time!

BringMeTea123 · 05/07/2017 18:58

Aww how exciting! I was never sure either lol. He was due the 4th of October but I was induced 10 days overdue (14th) and he arrived 15th of October. Was mad thinking the whole way through I'll have a baby the 4th of October and it just didn't happen lol .

Yep is not easy or glamorous is it

Buttons2121 · 05/07/2017 22:06

Dream genie pillow is brilliant! Also I have one from Dunelm which is a curved support pillow and that is great too, even for just lounging on the sofa! Never underestimate the usefulness of pillows!! Smile

Poppies9629 · 06/07/2017 05:07

I am currently 29w and have had this since the beiginning of my 2nd trimester. Every night I wake between 4 and 5 am! I think it is because I am used to sleeping on my front and keep trying to get in that position and can't, or my soon to be DD wakes up and starts kicking me.
I get up, get a cup of decaf tea, faff on my phone / read for an hour then go back to sleep for as long as possible.
Having a Fitbit which monitors sleep has also shown that I am restless all night and my best quality sleep is had early morning after my cuppa!
I am convinced it's training for when baby is here. Smile

Dothbutternoparsnips · 06/07/2017 05:48

The one advantage is that when that baby comes your night times actually get better (and I had 1x bad 1x average-bad sleepers)

Despite being up 5-6 times a night with dd2 I still remember thinking 'thank god I'm not still pregnant'
