Worms in pregnancy

I'm a nanny and my boss has just told me that the babies I look after have worms and the GP has said I need to take a working tablet along with the family. I'm 7 weeks pregnant and I'm not at all comfortable with taking anything. My plan was to tell my boss this week but I don't start work until tomorrow so she doesn't know yet.
I love my job and my boss is amazing but I don't want to text her to tell her I'm pregnant. Is it safe for me to go to work if the babies have worms? I really don't know what to do for best! It's my first baby and I'm already nervous. Advice appreciated!

I would only take the advice of a Doctor on this one! Mumsnet is good but you need proper medical advice. Call NHS direct if you don't have time to make an appointment with a doc x

Thanks @Flappergirl86! As daft as it sounds, that wouldn't have occurred to me! I googled it but you get such conflicting answers that it's not great. Waiting for them to call me back Smile

I'm sure you can't take those tablets in pregnancy? Did you get a answer?

From what I heard these tablets are a no no in pregnancy x

When I was in my third trimester my kids came home with worms and I caught it too. I did the hygiene measures for about 3 weeks and all the kids were treated then I spoke to my consultant who checked it out and said the tablets had not been tested on pregnant women but they should be OK to take as I was quite far along. Tbh if all the children have been treated before you start work and you keep up all the hygiene procedures then you should be ok. I wouldn't have taken anything early on in my pregnancy but as other posters have said its best of you contact your GP for the best advice.

GP says I can't take anything. Chances are I won't catch worms but if I do then I'm just stuck with them until they go which could take a couple of weeks. I spoke to my boss and we have yet to come to a decision about whether I'm working tomorrow.
I know there wouldn't be a risk to baby but I'd still rather not have worms.

It's very unreasonable not to work IMO.

You are unlikely to catch them. My DD had them a few times through nursery, one time when I was pregnant and once when breastfeeding (cant take Ovex bf either) I didnt catch them either time. While they are little and in nappies/not able to scratch bottoms etc. Id expect it would be much less likely. Just make sure you wash hands after nappy changes and thoroughly before you eat. Also don't change any of the babies bedding/blankets for a few weeks.
