So far have maybe 8 sleepsuits n bodysuits, few pairs of trousers, few tops. Tonnes of socks, mittens and hats. Coats and cardigans but all in 0-3 months. I figured i would skip new born as the weight range suggests he would be in it for 5 mins..... I dont have any vests though. Do i need these as well as bodysuits??

Oh and four bibs...

I did the same, had loads of 0-3 months and when DD was born I had to send my mum out for emergency sleep suits as everything she had buried her. Poor little thing was in a pack of basics white (didn't stay white long) sleep suits for a little while until the others were a little more suitable
We were gifted loooaaaaddddsss of clothes when she was born (didn't know the sex until she was born)
I don't get the sizing anyway, each ship seems to be different

Shop not ship

I was told my DS was going to be 10 pounder. Didn't bother with newborn. Be came out 7lb.15. So all the 0 to 3 drowned him for a good month or two. My DH had to go buy some newborn bits. It all depends where you get them. I had loads if next clothes and they were absolutely huge.

Mummyoftwo91 · 04/07/2017 11:30

I bought loads of next 0-1 month and also plain white tiny baby from Tesco, I had a 8lb 10 and a 8lb 11 and both mine fitted in those sizes from birth for over a month

BaffledMummy · 04/07/2017 11:37

It's so hard to know....we had quite a lot of new born vests and sleepsuits which we couldn't use for about 6 weeks! DD was 6lb 6 and I had to send DH out to buy a lot of 'tiny baby' size which lasted for quite a while. She wasn't even in 0-3 months until nearly 3 months. M&S are massive though! Even now DD usually wears 2 sizes too small in them.

Jellybabie3 · 04/07/2017 13:07

Ah ok so no straight answer. Will get a gew bits just to atleast get him home. I guess i need more bibs though! So much to think about....

0-3 might be too big or it might not. I'd recommend getting a few bits in different sizes and then once lo is born you can send someone to the shops for more.
My dm had to do an emergency run to the shops the day that dd was born for the 'tiny baby' size as even the newborn stuff was too small for her.

BaffledMummy · 04/07/2017 14:29

I'd just get loads of muslins instead of bibs....you can use them for everything and anything. I didn't really use bibs as the milk dribbled between the bib and DDs neck. With a muslin, it was more absorbant so reduced cheesy neckcrease likelihood!

EdgarAllenPoe · 04/07/2017 14:45

I skipped newborn altogether - my son was 10lbs at birth and too big for them. I had an inkling he'd be big though. He lived in vests and sleepsuits for the first couple of months in the middle of winter. You'd probably be fine in just sleepsuits in the summer/early autumn.

Worst case, someone can nip out and buy some bits if you need them. Or order online, even easier. We got given so many clothes from relatives once he was born it wasn't an issue.

Get plenty of muslins though!

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 04/07/2017 15:11

Most gifts seem to be 3-6m for me. My 7lb babies haven't got to 0-3 until 8 weeks. I agree on a rough calculation of 3 clothes changes per 24 hours so think about how often/quickly you'll wash and dry stuff.

badg3r · 04/07/2017 15:17

DC1 was too big (long) for newborn stuff so went straight to 0-3. If you buy a few bits then keep in mind that you might want to return them if they are too small!

IME, people who have no kids will buy all the cute tiny baby outfits and people who have will buy larger sizes, i.e. 18-24 months that you will never believe your tiny baby will be big enough to wear.

bigredboat · 04/07/2017 15:29

Primark sizes come up quite small, a pack of new born sleepsuits and a pack of new born vests should be around £12 so not the end of the world if they only get used a few times.

Ginlinessisnexttogodliness · 04/07/2017 18:51

You will definitely need some use to 1 month or newborn. Especially bodies / vests and sleep suits. The vests with poppers are stretchy and you need them to fit the baby not swamp them, especially deer sleep suits.

I have had two long fairly heavy babies at 8.5 and 9.8lbs respectively. They were slim though. 0-3 months drowned them for a good six weeks.

Good luck with the Birth and congratulations 😊

Ginlinessisnexttogodliness · 04/07/2017 18:52

@bigredboat good pint about size discrepancies. Primary is indeed small as is Asda and Next sleepsuits I find. Sainsbury's, Mothercare and Tesco a bit bigger.
H&M stuff can be dinky but also quite long I've had loads from there but sizing a bit unpredictable.

Ginlinessisnexttogodliness · 04/07/2017 18:53

Primark not primary

riddles26 · 05/07/2017 11:14

Like most pp my one was in newborn for a good 2-3 weeks, then upto 1 month until about 8 weeks before finally fitting into 0-3 months.
Sizing comes up different at different shops, Next and Gap on smaller side, Boots, Mothercare, M&S are larger, Tesco is huuge compared to all others (she's always at least 1 size down in their stuff).

I had a first outfit washed and ready in both newborn and upto 1 month which I took to hospital and a few bits washed and ready in upto 1 month at home. I then bought a few extra newborn sized baby grows and vests (November baby) right at the end of my pregnancy but kept them in their packets with receipts until after she was born so I could exchange for larger size if she was a big baby. Turns out we needed them all (and more!)

riddles26 · 05/07/2017 11:16

Also I second the suggestion of loads of muslins instead of bibs. We didn't start using bibs until she started drooling everywhere as milk went between the bib and her neck when she used to spit up
