Hi,
I found out my baby is breech last week and she has still definitely not turnt! I can feel a head just under my ribs and the pain I'm
In is unreal! I've been offered the procedure to turn her which I have decided against as it sounds very distressing for baby and myself. So my question is what is my next step, can I ask for a c section to be booked in? I can't take the pain or how anxious the situation is making me anymore! I have a 2 year old I'm struggling to look after as I can hardly move!
I just don't know who to speak to or what to do so any advice is appreciated x

DD was breech which we only discovered when her feet and legs came out in the hospital car park. Thankfully we were both totally fine but the delivery team (there were loads of them in case of complications) all said they are usually extremely reluctant to attempt a breech birth vaginally.
If you're worried you can speak to your midwife and they can (even if they protest) book you in for a section, you're under no obligation to accept the procedure to turn baby, and you have the right to ask for a section.

User, you've got lots of time yet for baby to turn... here's hoping it does! There's a few great websites that show some exercises to help get baby to turn. I can't remember the name just now of the most popular - it's something like spinning babies. It is definitely worth a Google and spending a bit of time encouraging the little one to turn!

My dd was breech and turned 2 days before my section which was planned anyway, she was well over 10lb. They can still turn, was not the most pleasant experience mind.

I gave birth breech so it can be done. Totally up to you though.

The hospital have basically said there isn't much hope of turning as the placenta is very high .. and is taking a lot of room plus she's a biggun! I woke up at 2:30 last night in horrendous pain feels like she's trying to go but is stuck. I had a vaginal delivery with my first which wasn't straight forward and was very traumatic and she turnt the day I went into labour all be it back to back! I would rather a c section at this point. Are you aloud to have that as a choice? X

Yes, you are, especially with a previous traumatic birth. If a section is the only thing that will keep your anxiety down then ask for it. There is a lot of pressure on women to do things "naturally" but imo getting baby out in the safest way is what matters. Please speak to your midwife soon so you can get some reassurance.

TheLongRains · 04/07/2017 08:18

Yup! Your choice. I was at one of the top hospitals in the UK for breech deliveries, but they still gave me the option of breech delivery or c section. Have a word with your midwife and get referred for getting a section booked in if that is your preference. I'm pretty sure they can't/won't force a breech delivery given the extra risks. Good luck! She may turn yet!

I was offered and had an elective section at 39 weeks as my dd was in a breech position. This was after an attempt to turn her which was unsuccessful and unpleasant. The section was very relaxed and a good experience all round. Good luck!

hickorydickorynurseryrhyme · 04/07/2017 09:12

Definitely. The hospital suggested c-section to me

user1480264544 · 04/07/2017 09:33

So who would I contact? The hospital or the midwife? It's just so stressful I just want her out safely and quickly the pain is unbearable 😞 I can just feel she's not going anywhere x

I was born breech and i'm fine . haha but i think if you are unsure on your options then contact your midwife and explain the pain you are in. you can defiantly ask about having a c section if you feel thats the best option for you! hell, my baby has been breech the majority of my pregnancy but had server pains due to a huge moment she did herself out of that position. But it also meant i had them telling me options and reccomendation of c section! x

Rshard · 04/07/2017 10:28

My breech was only picked up at a 36 week scan due to low placenta, so hospital organised everything from that point as I was transferred to consultant led care. She was measuring big at that point and they didn't want to risk it.

Do you have a midwife appointment soon? Could you call her? But as pp have said baby may still turn.

user1480264544 · 04/07/2017 10:45

I had an appointment last week, and the midwife literally sent me straight to hospital with no appointments for the future or anything it seemed the hospital were to take care from that point but I've had no contact since then .. well Thursday which was the day of my appointment then the hospital Called re a scan the following day. The sonographer didn't really know what to do next as it wasn't his specialty which I get it's just each day that passes the pain gets worse and with a toddler I feel so useless and rubbish not to mention a partner that I feel is just trying to push my buttons and annoy me! To think I have to put up with this for potentially 3 more weeks is torture! X

Agree with Rshard, hospital attempted to turn DS who was breech at 36 weeks, it was horrendous - out of all the baby experiences I have had, that was definitely the worst! I wouldn't recommend it at all....my planned C-section afterwards at 39 weeks was a dream, a really lovely and special experience.

user1480264544 · 04/07/2017 12:55

Anyone have any ideas who I would contact about this? Antenatal unit at the hospital? I've never seen the same midwife twice so I'm a bit confused lol x

I've not seen the same midwife twice but I would still ring the numbers I have to ask! Or the hospital matetnity section where you plan to give birth? If you are that unsure why not ring them all? I'm sure someone professional will give you the right answer xxxxx

Ginlinessisnexttogodliness · 05/07/2017 23:49

My second baby was breech at 39 weeks. Scan on induction ward showed this. At 39+1 I was sent down to theatre for c section where a final scan revealed she'd turned overnight and was head down, fully engaged. Waters broken and off I waddled to labour suite where she arrived later that night. All 9lbs 8oz of her.
Miracles can happen!

user1480264544 · 07/07/2017 09:06

Oh wow 9 lbs 8 Grin I'm all booked in for my c section it's booked for the 24th im so excited I just want her here now! But atleast I have a fixed date in mind.. even if she turns it's given me a boost as I felt like it was never going to end!! She's in such a weird position that again they say it's unlikely she will turn but as you say anything can change!! X

I'm glad you got it booked and feel happier with the situation now. Smile

Backhometothenorth · 07/07/2017 09:12

Yes you'll need a consultant appointment to arrange section - speak to the hospital if you have been signed over to them and say just what you have told us Flowers

Backhometothenorth · 07/07/2017 09:13

Ah cross-post! Great news OP
