Do you swaddle AND use a baby sleeping bag??

I'm looking at both these things on Aden+Anais (I'm a little bit in love with this website to be honest!). Do you swaddle them and then put them in a sleeping bag or is it an either/or thing?? I'm completely confused. I miss planning on using a side cot such as the Next 2 Me, and I already have a Sleepyhead. I'm just lost as to what bedding to use! Baby is due in October so will be little over winter.

I would swaddle, then put a cellular blanket on top. The arms stop the bag from slipping over the baby's head, so not really compatible with swaddling.

Probably either or, as otherwise they may overheat, not all babies need or like swaddling( and for different lengths of time, until the startle reflex dies down)

You do one or the other depending on your and your baby's preference :)

Ah thank you so much! I know this might sound all pretty obvious but seriously, thanks!Blush

Newborns are often too small for sleeping bags.

The number of layers depends on how cool your bedroom is. If you have a very cool room then you could swaddle plus a blanket, but if the baby is already wearing clothes and you swaddle that's probably enough. The general rule is the baby has one more layer on than you do.

Your baby might dislike swaddling, both of mine didn't take to it.

We used a grosnug when DS was tiny, which is a sleeping bag that allows you to have arms in or out.

We swaddled with a cellular blanket and placed a second cellular blanket over DD on cold nights (she's an October baby).

I have fond memories of waking up to a grunting sound as she systematically fought her way out of the swaddle. Even at a few weeks old she had so much patience and determination to escape, she was like Houdini.
