Nursing chairs - are they worth it?

Thinking of investing in a nursing chair & stool- they are very comfy! Just wondering if anyone has found that they aren't really worth the money?

Love mine. I use it every day. Dc are now 3 and 5 Blush I bought mine online and it was £100 cheaper than in shops.

I use mine multiple times a day/night. Baby has been in her own room from day 1 so I'm in the nursery a lot. Comfort is key! We bought a rocking armchair with a stool. It was about £300 but you can take the rocking bits off afterwards and use it as a normal armchair

Best thing I got! Do it.

Casmama · 02/07/2017 16:25

Loved mine too. Used it for two children and when not breastfeeding it was next to dc's bed for story time. Worth considering the colour you get and if it would work in their bedroom/ your bedroom/ living room etc to give more flexibility

Another vote for the nursing chair. Love mine. Got it off eBay for a bargain £35 though. Worth considering second hand if you are trying to reduce costs.

FutureDays · 02/07/2017 16:28

We bought one second hand on gumtree, very glad we got it as it is used most nights

Never got on with mine. Needed a lot more support and cushions etc than they could provide, the idyllic image of me rocking wee baby while beatifically smiling down and breastfeeding turned out to be a fantasy. Sold it.

Topsyloulou · 02/07/2017 16:36

Loved mine. Bought it off eBay for about £40. I used it for every night feed.

I desperately wanted a nursing chair when I was pregnant but never got around to buying one. As it turns out both DDs were really difficult babies and were constantly breastfeeding. So I wouldn't have wanted to be stuck upstairs in the nursery (which they never used as they were cot refusers and we co-slept). I spent most of the time in bed or in front of the telly. So a nursing chair wouldn't have suited me but I had no way of knowing that in advance.

Dauphinois · 02/07/2017 16:43

I never had one and after 4 children can't say I missed it. I mostly fed downstairs on the sofa, or in my bed at night. I'm not sure when I would have used one tbh.

eternalopt · 02/07/2017 17:19

Some are good. Some are very narrow. Watch out for that

Only more comfy than a chair with a footstool imo

EnglandKeepMyBones · 02/07/2017 18:39

Do it! We only bought one when she finally went into her own room at about 8 months, she is now 15 months and I still use it daily.

BenLui · 02/07/2017 18:40

I was the only one if my friends who didn't have one.

Everyone else's chair ended up with washing piled on it quite quickly.

Lowdoorinthewal1 · 02/07/2017 18:45

We got an Ikea Poang. Cheaper and also very comfy. Cushions are easy to replace if they reach terminal vomited-on status. It has been used as a bedtime story chair and now DS uses it himself for gaming! It's certainly worked for it's keep.

I think they are a bit more versatile for redeployment after babyhood is over.

slothqueen · 02/07/2017 18:53

Love mine and still use it every day. I didn't have one until she was 4 months old and had a really bad back. My lower back pain resolved a week after I got it after I was no longer slumped sat up breastfeeding over night.

sunnywithadashofgin · 02/07/2017 19:03

Best buy! Use it still now for bedtime stories and cuddles!

Lemondrop99 · 03/07/2017 00:28

Sorry to hijack but no one answered my thread. Can anyone recommend a nice wide glider for big bums?! Don't want to feel wedged in Grin

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 03/07/2017 16:14

I got a non-nursing chair (not the Ikea Poang) last time on the basis that it made sense to buy something that I would use post-breastfeeding - very pretty, cushioned rocking chair. Worst decision ever. I don't even want to think about how many hours I spent in that chair cursing how uncomfortable it was for nursing. I have promised myself that I will chop it up with a big axe one day. I'll be buying a nursing chair this time around!

stepmum88 · 03/07/2017 18:54

Thanks for all the advice 😊 just got a
Mothercare one on EBay (worth £180) for £31 😃

I wa sgiven one and I absolutely fecking hate it as ds spends all his time when he is breastfeeding kicking the sodding arm of it so I have to lie sideways on it (parallel to the arm so with ds feet pointing out) to feed. Which is unbelievably uncomfortable!
