Help! Just found out I'm pregnant but on lots of medication?

I'm having a little anxiety attack right now. I literally discovered that I'm pregnant today and I'm freaking out! I'm absolutely thrilled of course but I have a problem. I'm currently on a lot of medication for various health problems and when I had my DS i had weaned off all medications before conceiving. This wasn't necessarily unplanned but we didn't think it would happen so soon! And now I'm panicking that I'm poisoning my baby! But at the same time I don't want to just stop all of them at once. Would this warrant an emergency gp appointment? I obviously can't get to them until they open on Monday and I don't know what to do!

I'm sorry I'm just a bit panicked. I was not expecting this. It made me so happy until I realised I might be poisoning my baby.

I currently am on - Ivabradine, Pregabalin, Omeprazole, Tramadol, Diazepam, Midodrine, Duloxetine, MST Continus, Methocarbamol, Fludrocortisone and Promethazine. And Cerazette, which clearly failed me.

Does anyone know if there are any of these medications that will really harm the baby? Because if so I will stop them right away, unless stopping them will harm the baby omg I'm panicking. Can anyone offer any suggestions on what to do?

They can sort marriage, asthma, impotence and cancer? That's an impressive CV. #bullshit

Hope you get on well tomo op

Thank you everyone for the support it's very comforting. However does anyone know why one of the comments was deleted? I never saw it originally and I'm just curious xx

I didn't see it either, but from the first line of Giraffe's post above yours it looks like it was a spam post offering to cure every ailment going. Don't worry about it OP.

27Harper · 02/07/2017 18:40

Ah ok I make the connection now. Thanks hun x

Spam posts ugh Hmm

Congratulations OP and hopefully you will feel ok coming off the meds. :)

Also sorry to hijack but huge thank you for mentioning SVT which I'd never heard of. I have a POTS diagnosis (no consultant, long story Hmm) but have random tachycardia attacks that aren't related to standing. From googling off the back of your post I am now thinking that may be at play for me too, so thank you Thanks

27Harper · 02/07/2017 19:19

@Cagliostro

Thanks hun, it's gonna be a hellish few weeks coming off all these if I remember correctly last time (and I do!). SVT is unsurprisingly common amongst people with POTS so i would say it's worth getting checked. And you're very welcome hun thanks for the support 💟 xx

Yeah was a spammer who was offering details of someone who could cast spells for love/marriage/lack of love...then at the end threw in they could also do spells to cure impotence, cancer and asthma. Muppets.

I don't have a pots diagnosis but all the symptoms so I use all the pots tricks to help and it works. There's a good supportive pots fb group if you're not already on it. Let us know how you get on tomo

Fingers crossed for tomorrow op. Was basically only really on bupranorphine patches by the timw i found out i was pregnant. A few other drugs but very very low doseage. But high dose of morphine patch. I had to wean off slowly and i managed tk get off everything by 28 weeks but the plan was to be off everything by 33 weeks so you can do it up until fairly advanced in pregnancy. Ask for an urgent referral to your pain clinic and obs. Good luck!!!

UnbornMortificado · 03/07/2017 07:26

Good luck today OP, I came off a load of MH drugs to get pregnant then ended up with HG and a cervical stitch put in that caused an infection.

Ended up on more medication for sickness, infection and pain then when not pregnant. I'm 28 weeks today and up to now baby has been completely fine (just not me)

rollingonwheels · 03/07/2017 08:07

Hiya
I was on a lot of medication when I found I was pregnant with my first, and I managed to reduce down and keep on Mst, oramorph, cyclazine, lanszoperzole,
Lots of laxatives and asthma inhalers.

rollingonwheels · 03/07/2017 08:10

Oh and fentanyl patches xx

27Harper · 03/07/2017 08:31

Thanks for the support everyone! Really helps me calm down about the whole situation. I'll update when I come back from the doctors today, just hope he's in a good mood as I'm definitely not, hard to sleep with the constant throwing up and a crying one year old who doesn't seem to have slept since the day he was born! Thanks everyone will keep you posted. Much love 😗❤ xx

Back from the GP! Such a hassle to get there this morning, couldn't sleep and was so tired and dizzy that I could barely walk but my lovely husband drove me so that helped. My doctor was so lovely as he always is and we've sort of worked out a plan on how to wean off of the meds, although he has told me that after weaning off of the tramadol and morphine I am allowed solpadol to control the pain, and I am allowed to stay on promethazine but he's changing the Omeprazole to ranitidine as he said that it's safer during pregnancy. I just want to thank everyone again for their advice and support because it has really helped calm my anxiety on the situation so much much love to all of you. Now I get to
Start picking baby names!! 😗💟 xx

Thanks hun! xx

Glad your gp was helpful but I would still advise a visit to see a obstetrician at the hospital. Omeprazole was prescribed to me by a consultant it's safe. There is no need to wean down morphine at all.
Gp's are not experts on how pregnancy meds affect fetus at all. They can withdraw meds unnecessary causing pain to mothers and sometimes withdrawal to Fetus.

27Harper · 03/07/2017 16:46

I will definitely get an appointment with an obs. I though Omeprazole was ok too but he just said that ranitidine was slightly safer. My regular gp was sick today so I got another one and he was nice but I really wish my regular gp was there. I'll also seek a second opinion with him as he's a lot more experienced in this regard xx

Glad you have other appointments. Hope I am not coming across as bossy. I really don't mean to.
I just was told by my GP to stop fentanyl patches and oromorph, I did and then went to the hospital with bleeding.( unrelated to stopping meds and all was well) The doctors there were really cross with the GP and also frustrated as I was in agony and the baby could have been experiencing withdrawal.
I was treated very well from then on in my pregnancies whilst taking opiates. I had consultant care and stayed in 72 hours after birth to check for withdrawal. All five babies ( 4 pregnancies had no withdrawal symptoms) I also breastfed whilst taking all my meds except codeine.

27Harper · 03/07/2017 17:38

Not at all hun! I really appreciate the advice and help. Very sorry to here about your experience in hospital that must have been very stressful. I never experienced withdrawals when pregnant with ds as I was weaned off before conceiving. I just hope everything goes smoothly this time round as well, the doctors will be sick of the sight of me at this point xx

hi i know this is such an old post, but regarding you having to stop ivabradine in pregnancy, did they offer you a safe alternative and did you go back on it after the pregnancy or not ?

thanks
