Unable to get measurements on nuchal scan

Hi. I had my 12 week scan today and measured at 12+6. We had a very active baby but he/she would just not cooperate with the sonographer. She could measure the back of the neck because of baby's position. She said everything else looks great. I have to go back in mind July for a blood test. Anyone else had This?

It was a lot more straight forward with DS. Had fold measurement and bloods done on the day. Told a week later that our chances were 1/100000

Sorry couldn't measure baby's neck and gave to go back mid July

Not had any experience of this but I would have thought they would try again in a few days not weeks.
I thought there was only a certain time for them to get the right measurements??? Could be wrong though.
Someone wiser will be along soon I'm sure

EdgeOfGlory266 · 29/06/2017 12:29

They won't be measuring the neck again. Just doing bloods.

Snap! My baby was waving and everything! Wouldn't stay still. My quad test is 10 July. Pain having to wait isn't it

twinkle1972 · 29/06/2017 12:59

They don't scan again as quad test doesn't include these measurements in its calculations

Redhead79 · 29/06/2017 13:50

Couldn't measure with dd1 as she moved too much so just had the blood test and this time it was too late as I was further along that I'd though so just bloods again. Both times my risk has been at the higher end but still classed as low risk. I don't think the bloods only is as accurate but this didn't bother me.

butterybollocks · 29/06/2017 13:55

We had this (now 20 weeks). Your options are to seek out a private nt scan if your local hospital won't repeat it, go for the quad test you've been offered, or look at a private nipt test.

We were too late on to try again for nt measurement, I didn't feel the quad test was reliable, so went for nipt (harmony) which was a stressful wait for results but came back clear.

It's hard. The thing is, it's not going to make a difference to me I don't think. When I had my son, my husband and I had the screening but had already ultimately decided that regardless of the outcome, we would carry on no matter what. We've discussed it this time around and said that we don't think we could continue with the pregnancy if it turned out we had a baby with any of these defects, purely because it the impact it would have on our son. but now we've seen the baby there is no way I could do that. I will have this baby no matter what. I just want to be prepared.

Yes I had this as I scanned at 14 weeks instead of 12 and he was too wriggly! I came back for a blood test the week after and got results a week after that.

Lemonicelolly1 · 29/06/2017 21:00

Yes I had this too, went back a few days later and still couldn't get the measurements so had the blood tests at 17 weeks. We were told though the blood test alone was only around 75% accurate. Got the results a week later and the results were high risk so opted for the harmony test. Was a stressful week waiting on the harmony results and not sure if I would even have the bloods done if I were to have another baby. We had decided before the harmony results we would continue with the pregnancy anyway but ultimately wanted to know what we were facing. I know it's easier said than done but try not to worry about it

EdgeOfGlory266 · 29/06/2017 21:12

Thanks ladies.

I'm not sure if I looked up the right thing, but it seems harmony tests run up to around £400. Correct me if I'm wrong. We've just sold our home and in the process of buying a new one. No spare cash at the moment, apart from baby savings. That rules out a harmony test. If quite happily whack it on the credit card if our finances weren't in the middle of being scrutinised. I guess we will just have to see how the bloods come out. Our quad test is on the 10th, by which time I will be 15+3. There didn't seem to be any cause for concern at the mat unit today. Google caused the concern. 🙈

I know I sometimes wonder why I Google things 🙈

I had my bloods done for the harmony test at my local NHS hospital when I had my consultation with the doctor after my high blood test which reduced the price a bit to £275. I had no idea they would be able to offer me that test, but I just couldn't bring myself to have an amneo but can totally see why people would. It's a shame harmony can't be done on the NHS if required because it really helped out my mind at ease.

Try not to worry too much about it, especially if there was no cause for concern at your scan 😊

twinkle1972 · 29/06/2017 21:37

OP our quad tests are same day!

RoseVase2010 · 29/06/2017 21:41

Yes, we had it with DS. So we had further blood tests and they came back fine. No.2 they were able to get the measurement and second one was deemed less of a risk on paper.

Steph999999 · 29/06/2017 21:41

I had the same thing with not being able to get the nuchal measurement. I'm pretty sure they took my blood for the quad test there and then though so not sure why you have to wait.

Long story short I got a high risk result from the quad test so chose to do the harmony. The quad test is so unreliable that next time around I would skip the quad rubbish and go straight for the harmony test.

It was £400 but we got invoiced a few weeks after the test and then had about a month from then to pay the bill so you may get away with not having to paying it until after your mortgage stuff is done.

EdgeOfGlory266 · 29/06/2017 22:00

We can go through this together twinkle1972

That's definitely something to think about Steph

I had mine last week and measured 12 weeks 1 day. The sonographer really tried but because of the position couldn't get measurements. She said everything looks good.

our hospital trust offers the Iona test, but I don't know if I'll opt for it. It may depend on results of bloods. I'll discuss with midwife but I'm not too worried about it... not sure I want to spend £300 (which is what the Iona test would cost us) if we don't come up as risk.

PathologyGeek · 29/06/2017 22:19

This happened with my 1st pregnancy, if they can't get the NT they won't try to re-measure, just do the quad blood test a few weeks later, got a ridiculously low risk score like
