Basically just that ; looking to hear some nice stories regarding induction, booked in tomorrow at 39+3 and starting to feel very nervous :(

I was induced by using a pessary (think that's how you spell it). The midwifes told me it would be HOURS before anything happened, possibly not even until the next morning......an hour later I was in full blown labour. Everything went smoothly, I had no pain relief (except gas and air) even though I begged for an epidural but it was too late by the time they got someone that was free to come and do it. Think from being induced to my son being born it took around 6 hours ish.

How are you being induced?

deb1407 · 27/06/2017 15:54

Pessary also! .. glad to hear your story. 10pm tomorrow night so my daughter could be with us first thing Thursday morning!

My waters had already broken though, that's the reason I was induced as nearly 24 hours later my contractions still hadn't started, not sure if this made a difference in how fast things went but thought id mention it!

Good luck! By 39 weeks I was so ready for the pain! lol don't be nervous its all worth it to meet your little baby and to not be pregnant anymore!

GruffaloPants · 27/06/2017 16:09

My first induction was crap.

Second was lovely. Painful, obviously, it's childbirth. But only took 5 hours from waters breaking, and I only had gas and air. Was in the shower about an hour later.

PancakesAndMapleSyrup · 27/06/2017 16:13

2nd baby induced at 40+10, 6 hour pessary put in at 11am, nothing for ages. 1st niggle contraction 340pm, followed by violent diarroeah. 4pm contractions well underway every 2-3mins, 420pm DD shoots out like a bloody cannon ball. I was standing up until very last moment. Very lucky she didnt hit the floor as i felt burning sensation so threw myself on the bed and got half my knickers off, hand down there and whoosh she was out. Luckily no tearing and someone went to get a midwife as i was left to my own devices on the ward! V v quick. Ive requested my next be an induction as it was so quick i dont want to get caught out again.

needsomesunshineandwine · 27/06/2017 16:15

I was induced with single pessary too, like pp contractions started within hour and went into full labour as well.

Labour was quick and intense.

Good luck 🙂

rightlittlered · 27/06/2017 16:15

My first induction took a while but I was in germany where they give you tablets to swallow over a couple of days. I went to sleep on the friday PM with period type pains, woke up to my 'show' and had a walk around... waters broke and my DD1 was here 10 hours later! I was induced at 38 weeks and my cervix was very firm, very thick and very closed which is why it took a few days.

Good luck, OP!

PacificDogwod · 27/06/2017 16:19

I had a great induction with DS1 some 14 years ago Smile

A couple of pessaries over night, labouring by walking the darkened corridors of the hospital, labour suite @ 6am, had an epidural which slowed things down (as you would expect), so needed a syntho drip which because the epidural was fine, relatively long pushing period, but DS1 popped out after lunchtime.

V best of luck! Thanks

Fwiw, I also had a 'good' emCS and 2xVBACs - don't get too hung up on how you deliver - it's only a tiny part of being a mother.

PacificDogwod · 27/06/2017 16:19

Oh, I forgot, I too had my waters broken - that really got things going!

Rockspin · 27/06/2017 16:21

I've had 2 inductions, both positive!
1st induction I had pessary at 12pm and had light contractions from 4pm, they got stronger but not intensely painful, so I did lots and lots of walking. Overnight it got more painful but again not terrible. Waters went on their own at 5am, things then got quite painful. I was taken up to delivery and put on drip and given epidural but I was only 3cm. I slept a lot for the rest of the day then at 10pm I was checked but still not progressed as much as hoped so I was given 2 more hours then I would have needed a section as baby's heart rate was dipping but in those 2 hours I slept and was 10cm dilated when I woke up, and in 30 minutes she was out. No tears and totally pain free so I felt it was a lengthy but positive birth.

2nd induction was 6 weeks ago, again pessary at 12pm and I had strong contractions from 3pm. By 6pm I needed to bounce on the ball and was having trouble walking far. By 10pm pain was intense. By 3am pain was unbearable so I had pethedine and managed to sleep for 2 hours. At 5.30am midwife suggested a bath but contractions were very very intense and close together and I couldn't manage a bath. I was checked at 6.30am and I was 3cm dilated but midwife called my husband to come in. Pain was getting stronger still, so they took me to delivery suite and by the time got there I was feeling the need to bear down. At 7am they decided to check me and they discovered I was fully dilated and baby was coming. All I had for pain relief was gas and air and it was very very intense and my husband still hadn't arrived! Husband finally arrived about 10 minutes before baby was born and I felt like a warrior woman having done it all with gas and air and so quickly - and again no tears!

Good luck OP!

JaneEyre70 · 27/06/2017 16:25

My DD was induced with all 3 of hers - and longest labour she had was 4 hours. Each time they were able to break her waters and put her straight onto a drip....in fact it panicked me when her first was born in 3 hours and my SIL rang to say if you're coming in, you'd better shift!!

Oliack1417 · 27/06/2017 16:25

I was a full 2 weeks overdue with DS2 and was also very nervous about the induction. I needn't have worried though.
I was induced via the pessary, it started working after about 6 hours for me.
He was 9'2oz (eek) yet I was home within 3 hours and out to the pub for lunch the next day. You'll be fine!

BendydickCuminsnatch · 27/06/2017 16:34

I had 1 pessary at 3pm, went for walk around hospital gardens, played games, walked the stairs, bounced etc. DH went home to bed as everyone told us we'd be there 48hrs + (1st time mum). Went from 2cm-delivery in 40 mins and DH only just made it! Forceps for shocked baby but AOK in the end! Born at 3:15am. 11 days late though so maybe he was ready to exit!

ems137 · 27/06/2017 16:49

I had a great induction with DC3, my previous 2 DC had been natural labours.

My waters had partially gone so the midwife did a bit more rummaging to break the rest of them then put me on the drip. This was probably around 1pm and she was born shortly before 7pm. The contractions slowly built up in intensity, exactly like they had with the natural births. I only had gas and air and a very short pushing stage with no tears or stitches.

I was terrified of being induced after all the horror stories you hear but it was honestly fine. I'm 39+3 at the moment and would obviously prefer a natural start to labour but aren't too bothered if I need to be induced again.

Good luck x

blue2014 · 27/06/2017 16:50

You know what? Mine took bloody ages (5 days) of which about 24 hours was labour and resulted in a c section. On paper that doesn't sound great but now he's here? It was fine .. at least I didn't have to rush out of bed at 3am and search for my hospital bag, hey? Smile

Good luck!

perfectpanda · 27/06/2017 18:14

I was induced 2 weeks ago due to being aged over 40. Pessary in at 6pm. Waters went 1.30am and gave birth 3am. Fastest and smoothest delivery yet (dc3). Best of luck.

DrCoconut · 28/06/2017 21:57

I may be a bit late now but DS3 was induced as my waters had broken and 48 hours later he was quite happy where he was! I had a pessary at 9am which gave me a few cramps and nothing else. At 5pm I had dinner and was told they wanted to start me on a drip as leaving me was becoming riskier. Drip started at 6pm, by 9pm I was enjoying skin to skin with my newborn Shock. He was my easiest birth with no trauma or stitches.

RandomMess · 28/06/2017 22:02

I've had 4 inductions (just don't see to go into labour!)

2 needed 1/2 pessaries and took around 10 hours, the other 2 needed more pessaries and ARM and a couple of days to get into established labour!

However, the births were unassisted, no rips, no tears, short pushing stage so on and so on.

They don't have to be horrific, try and relax as much as you can, my last birth was a breeze pain wise because I didn't care about the labour - given up thoughts of a "perfect birth" by that stage!

deb1407 · 28/06/2017 22:48

Hi ladies

I'm on the ward with my 1st pessary in an hour ago, the midwife also gave me a sweep while she was in and could feel baby's head.

Anxiety is getting me more than anything else just now: I'm such a worrier and would pay good money to stop letting negative thoughts ruin this for me.

Op think of the end product. Its the delight you have been waiting for and you really are not far off now. We all have to go through birth and several do it over and over again so its not that bad!!! Good luck and chin up!

blue2014 · 28/06/2017 23:31

Good luck OP. Don't worry about the worry Smile I had really bad pregnancy anxiety but it hasn't ruined my memories of labour now he's here

needsomesunshineandwine · 29/06/2017 07:54

Good luck op, hope everything went ok.

lookatthemoon · 29/06/2017 08:05

I was induced - waters broken and synto drip. All moved quite quickly - was only examined twice and four hours later I had a baby! Good luck!

NotAnotherUserName5 · 29/06/2017 09:13

Good luck! Hope all is going well for you.
I was induced on Friday, and went fine.

Mamabear14 · 29/06/2017 12:48

Once my waters were broken it was fab. Before that, the pessary did bugger all, then I had to wait 4 days for a bed to be available on labour ward for my waters to be broken. That was honestly hell. BUT, once my waters had gone, drip was up, it was fairly quick and I had mobile monitoring so I could still move around
