Clexane supply issue

I have been advised today that clexane 40mg has a nationwide supply issue. My pharmacy can't get it anywhere. They referred me back to the hospital- even their pharmacy have none. So I now need to inject twice with 20mg for the time being. This is miserable- I hate injecting and get massive bruises. Anyone faced the same issue?

That's odd. I got a script no bother. Maybe ring around other pharmacies someone bound to have it in stock and much better than 2 injections a day

Mymouthgetsmeintrouble · 27/06/2017 15:12

That would explain why last week i couldnt get it at three different chemists my local one is shut weds so i popped in thurs and they said they would order it in it didnt come but i popped in on the monday and it was there , ring round local chemists or see if they can order it in for you because two of these nasty bugger injections a day is not nice at all

I picked up my prescription with no bother on Monday. They didn't say anything about it running short.

It's a national shortage. In hospital we are using the 60mg and discarding a third but that's deemed potentially unsafe for outpatients so they are having to inject twice.

Supply problems in Scotland too .... current advice here is to give 2 injections of 20mg , but this may change as other strengths of enoxaparin are expected to be in short supply soon too. The entire NHS are currently considering what to do if this happens.

Nightmare. I'm in Scotland too, there's none anywhere. My pharmacy have phoned several other pharmacies and haven't been able to get any. I said to the midwife in the (massive- biggest in Europe) hospital and she said they had none in the pharmacy- so it's not like they are saving it for certain cases. Bit of a worry if other strengths run low. Wonder if any of the other similar drugs (like heparin) have been tested in pregnant woman..?

As I said there are lots of discussions across every health board at the moment about choosing alternatives which are suitable for all patients as the company who supply CLEXANE are predicting ongoing supply problems

Oh no! Sorry to read this. I'm taking 0.4ml, will be collecting my prescription today - hopefullyShock

rememberpurpleronnie · 28/06/2017 18:41

Kelly is it the 40mg you take? If so let us know if you are successful getting it!

I'm in Ireland and have just finished injecting twice... awful and my thighs look terrible but done and dusted thankfully

KellyMarieTunstall2 · 29/06/2017 11:35

I've been to collect mine this morning, despite ordering it last Friday, they didn't have any, they called the supplier who doesn't have any and no date for when they can supply. Thankfully my dh found another chemist who has some. I used my last syringe last nightShock

Is Clexane an anticoagulant? If so I know that Tinzaparin (low molecular weight heparin) can be used in pregnancy, that's what my hospital prescribes. I wonder if there's any reason you can't be on that instead? I genuinely don't know what the difference might be though!

Flowers and Cake for all the ladies double-dropping on their injections! One a day will feel like a holiday after that..!

KellyMarieTunstall2 · 29/06/2017 13:50

I called my antenatal clinic to explain the clexane issue, and a Dr agreed to prescribe tinzaparin and write to my gp so supply issues won't affect me in the future. I will miss the clexane syringes though, so easy to use.

Ask for a paper prescription and try ringing around your local pharmacys, we sometimes struggle to get in stock in but find other places will have a spare box or our nearby pharmacy that has all of the 'weird and wonderfuls' and seems to always have something in stock. Hope you manage to get some! (I work in pharmacy and understand the frustration!)
